I agree with you. Glen Eira is spending about 7% on Capital Works on recreational assets creating wonderful facilities which we all have, and do, and will use.

Dear Anon,
seems like you’ve missed our point!!! The above figures spent primarily on sporting grounds/pavilions are conservative. They do not account for budget over-runs, items not published and other miscellaneous costs which are never itemised. The figures also do not take into account the projected expenditure of $7 – $9 million on Duncan McKinnon pavilion and grandstands, nor current proposals for Marlborough ‘redevelopment’. Hence the figures will be much, much higher and the question is: Is this expenditure equitable? especially when childcare, kindergartens, aged care and home help are not receiving their fair share of the cake? Further, one resident called these sporting developments ’empire building’ and we tend to agree. When budgets continually favour only a minority of the population then priorities must be re-assessed? Community plans highlight environment, planning, and ‘recreation’ as the community’s prioritites? Where do we see this translated into budgets and strategic plans? NO, the ONLY PRIORITY IS TO BUILD monuments to egos as we’ve stated before!

This Data is Interesting but let us dissect it further.
Excluding Swimming pools manager and Sports ground Lighting, between 2006 to 2010 the following Wards have received the following funding:
– Camden Ward $10,618,000
– Rosstown Ward $ 2,511,000
– Tucker Ward $ 1,353,000
Slightly biased are we Councilors?
What really makes my blood boil and I reference it back to the comments made in the Tucker Ward Forum there are young girls “walking past urinals to get to a cubical” way back since 2006.
Again I tend to agree with “gleneira”, what are Councils priorities?
November 6, 2010 at 4:35 PM
According to the data provided above, the Councillors have spent $10,618,000 in Camden Ward and only $1,353,000 in Tucker Ward since 2006.
The Council came out with a priority list that failed to consider the situation with the girls at Victory Park as it has been pointed out to us in the ‘Tucker Ward Forum’.
But I suppose had they been in the Camden Ward, they may have had this problem resolved long before we found out about it.
Cr Magee was quoted in the ‘Tucker Ward Forum’, “I am embarrassed, deeply embarrassed and so is the council about the situation of Victory Park…”.
We can see how “embarrassed” the council is…. continuing to spend our After Tax Dollars collected via OUR Rates on matters outside our ward.
Having referred to the ‘Tucker Road Forum’ it is obvious that Cr Hymas is oblivious to the needs of his Ward. I quote, “in 2007 when the Pavilion Report was established did you have any girl’s teams? Because if you did, you would have been higher in the priority list.” Obviously he has no concept, no understanding nor an ounce of care as to the difficulties the people in his Ward are facing. Does he even know where Victory Park is?
Councillors Magee, Hymas and Lobo what are you three stooges doing to get this resolved?
You have been voted in to represent ‘this area’ and yet all the focus is elsewhere.
Have you abandoned these kids?
Are you quite content in sitting back and towing the line for the councillors that represent Camden and Rosstown Wards?
Maybe we just remove Tucker ward from the Municipality and make it part of Camden Ward. Then things might happen for the ‘forgotten community’ and ‘abandoned Victory Park’.

Look at the parks ‘getting angry’ and ask yourself which sporting club is the most powerful and dominant here. You’ll find answers to heaps of situations then, as well as answers to how this council runs.
November 7, 2010 at 12:44 PM
For every $1 spent in Tucker Ward the council has spent $7.85 in Camden Ward.
I have a solution to all this. The Tucker Ward resident should only pay $1 for every $7.85 stated in their Rates Notice, until the council starts to put into the Tucker Ward Parks and Pavilions starting with Victory Park.
I wonder if that will promote some activity by the council.
November 6, 2010 at 12:45 PM
Dear gleneira,
The expenditure is not equitable across all these areas and there is no argument that council must and I repeat MUST place some attention to these issues.
If it’s true that only 7% is on Capital Works then where is the other 93% going?
Let us not take away the importance of having these adolescent kids preoccupied in sporting activities rather than hanging around in shopping centers or street corners looking for other ways to exert some of that youthful energy. We don’t want to be talking about increasing police presence and having security guards on every corner of our Municipality.
I believe the pendulum has swung a little too far but in all I think the balance needs to be struck.

Let me understand this, you have a situation at Victory Park in Tucker Ward where girls do not have facilities to address their gender.
This has been festering for in excess of 5 years and Council and Councilors have acknowledged they are aware of it.
During these 5 years Council has not acted upon this matter and has no immediate plans to do so.
Are you out of your mind Councilors?
You do understand there is discriminatory and legal implication here?
As a rate payer, I strongly suggest that you quickly put things in place to resolve this situation.
