Look who’s risen from the ashes! After months and months of silence Neil Pilling is back on his blog. (http://crpilling.blogspot.com/) Sadly, there is no fire in the belly. All we get is a rehash of past history, a repeat of a whimpy motion passed months ago, and that’s it. No updates on ‘progress’; no report on ‘advocacy’ measures; no real news on anything. Does this mean that nothing has been done? Or does it simply mean that like most things all ‘action’ happens behind closed doors and the community is the last to know?

The biggest disappointment of all the new bloods is Pilling. He’s become Lipshutz’s little twin brother even to the extent of using the same language according to some of the posts on this blog. Wake up Neil. People voted for you because they expected and wanted change – not the same old garbage. As a green you’ve done precious little on the environment committee and certainly nothing about kindergartens. As for planning – that seems well beyond your understanding. You’ve only learnt how to use the word ‘appropriate’ as a justification for everything. Reckon you need to make up your mind. Are you a councillor or an aspiring federal/state politician?

Relax Neil – there isn’t another federal election for three years and state for four so just go back to sleep and let Lipshutz do the talking for you…or do you want to make it the gang of five?

That is quite unfair to Neil. Yes, he is a greenie in more ways than one. But it seems to me that he has learned the first lesson of politics. It is a numbers game. If you want something, you need support and the numbers. He did not have much choice: either to support the ‘gang of four’ or the disunited no gang of nobodies. So he made a decision to get at least something than absolutely nothing. So far so good. The problem is the bloody integrity and credibility that stands in the way. If he harbors any ambition for re-election then I think it’s gone by now.

Politics is about numbers and as you say Renegade it’s about copping it sweet on some issues in order to gain on others. Pilling has caved in but got nothing in return. He’s still waiting to hit pay dirt. The lesson in all of this is don’t sell out your principles or you’ll end up with egg all over your face. Pilling has changed colour. He’s gone from green to lily white. From outspoken critic he’s morphed into the ventriloquist’s doll where the strings are pulled by Lipshutz. This is all about integrity and credibility. Pilling lost this months and months ago.
