The C60 Amendment and the 7 lot subdivision were passed unanimously tonight – all according to plan no doubt. The gallery were assailed with the usual cliches, motherhood statements, and half truths. The rhetoric was familiar and repetitive. The C60 is the best deal that can be got; look we’ve protected residents, it’s only going to be 20 storeys instead of 23 and yes traffic will be a problem, but it’s already a problem so what’s the big deal? On and on and on. We’ll provide a more detailed report in the days ahead.
We’ve also chosen the title to this post deliberately. We think it speaks volumes of the actions of these four councillors and the administration in their total betrayal of residents. Top of the Brutus Scale is our first Green Councillor – Pilling. We simply wonder what his party must be thinking of him now?

As a result of Cr Pilling disgraceful actions, I am cancelling my membership to the Greens. Whilst they will not miss my 135 bucks per year, I wonder if this will be a trend in the area and may register with the party leaders. I will also be writing to Greg Barber stating concern over how one man can undo the good work by other members of the party on the racecourse issue and hope others do the same. I won’t be joining any political party ever again, maybe it should be a donation to GERA. As for the other members of the now gang of five, all I can say is don’t bother seeking reelection – just like Erlich last time, you would only be embarrassing yourselves.

It is useful to note that Councillors Forge, Pennhallariak, Tang and Magee having the most interest in the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve and surrounds were prevented from participating in the decision making process for the biggest project in Glen Eira history i.e.
C60 rezoning to a Priority Development Zone application by MRC
7 lot subdivision within the Racecourse Reserve
Crown Triangle Land Swap with “Roundabout Park” at Booran Road
Doesnt it appear from the GE residents point of view to be plainly illegal ?residents

One might possibly take comfort from the fact that Hyams last night on several occasions fluffed his lines, mumbled and stumbled and looked distinctly uncomfortable on several occasions. I would not presume that this in any way relates to conscience, but simply the fact that he was at least feeling the pressure. Gone was the silly supercilious banter that has far too frequently marked his performances. The script was written and he fluffed it. Hope he had a good night’s sleep in the end – that’s probably after receiving heartfelt congratulations from Messrs Newton and Discombe!! – and a slap on the back from Lipshutz no doubt. But I believe in Karma and it is just around the corner!

It was a dispirited effort by Councillors last night. They all struggled with their lines. It seemed like they suddenly realised how each prepared speech sounded too similar. Cr Esakoff didn’t sound like her normal self when speaking so maybe she was reading what somebody had written for her. Cr Lipschutz trashed David Southwick something shocking, claiming the Minister would call the thing in if Council didn’t accept all the Recommendations. At the community consultation David said that wouldn’t happen and was not Government policy. Nobody bothered to explain why removing people’s rights was appropriate, or why losing amenity is a good thing, or why the Plan had been kept hidden for so long. I can’t remember why Cr Pilling mentioned Murrumbeena, might have been that C60 was so good that he was jealous it wasn’t happening where he lives.
