We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
Now there’s avant guard, and there’s plain old ridiculous. This fits the second category. The biggest (literally) eye-sore in Glen Eira just beating the pavilions. Same bloke did them all by the way. He’s on a great wicket!
Come on now. This is called Modern Art. I call this The Spiral. The great coils of plumbing spiralling down clearly represents the spiralling decay of Glen Eira’s finances. Very well done I thought. The bright yellow representing our councillors courage, while the white sections represent the councillors abject surrender to Newton and Burke.
Making a heap of metal junk into great art like this takes special talent. Like the Glen Eira accounts, the Spiral is a real art form, full of creativity. I say we should enter the GESAC Spiral for the next Archibald Prize.
What shocks me is the sheer size of this. It’s an enormous box with funnels and plastic looking protrusions. Surely the design could have been more aesthetically pleasing to the eye and to what’s left of the surrounding parkland? It would also have been wise for this council to actually seek input on the various designs by residents since I’m assuming there would have been more than 1 tender. With the extended black/grey car park and the grey monolith of the building itself flashes of green parkland will be as rare as hen’s teeth.
It is a unbelievably ugly place, that could have been better with a few simple basics, a set back from the Rd would have made a big difference, as the bulk of the building dominates the the road something dreadful. This set back would also allowed room to soften the building lines with vegetation even trees. As it is, there is absolutely no room for a sparrow between the wall and footpath. It’s bad planning from second class bureaucrats and third class councillors.
Hey Anon, ya gotta think big picture. Now there’s this monstrosity it becomes the perfect excuse to have all buildings at least 4 storeys high along East Boundary Rd. See? Part of the overall planning agenda. Nothing is too big or too ugly for Newton and the gang and to hell with all the local residents. What a future we’re getting.
Yup, the drawings sure are revealing ain’t they? They tell us everything about bloody size – when there’s not one single dimension provided and they sure tell us the truth about the lurid colours of the “snakes” and flying saucers. And, and, and, the amount of green open space in the drawings are fantastic . Should win a prize for science fiction!
