We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
And now we will wait an eternity for the site to turn into a sea of bitumen. Our Councillor group are a sad lot and continue to be railroaded into false promises. Our ‘Green’ Mayor has sap on his hands!
A “sea of bitumen” thats got the price tag of 500,000 and then another couple of million for a glorified change room and showers. I call that real economies of scale.
And while all this “planned” work (gotta keep to the outdated pavilion building schedule regardless of changes in demographics) is going on costs will escalated as basic planning flaws appear (oops we need to move the ovals or we need to provide some previously never considered buffer zones: a la the recent Caulfield Park experience), we wait over 15 years for vegetation to begin to resemble what it is now. It really is time that residents began to question how many opportunities to acquire additional open space will be lost forever to strata tile high rises. Why is it much better to spend millions on continually “tweeking” existing parkland that Council acknowledges inadequately provides for the current need rather than striking on a balance between acquiring additional parkland to meet current and future needs while adequately maintaining existing parkland.
My take on this is that Council is hell bent on winning another award for parkland excellence which looks good in the Glen Eira News but ignores the fact that the per capita open space ratio drops (already the lowest in metro Melbourne and less than half the average for metro Melbourne). Shame that the awards it wins never balance quantity of open space vs. millions spent on maintenance of particular (not all) parks. And an even bigger shame that Councillors are content also ignore it..
I refer to the Aerial Over Lay Site Plan Archives. The same amount of Open Space is retained, it is just in a more practical area, adjacent to the BBQs, Toilets and playground. I seem to be a little confused with this thread. I can’t tell if it’s the money being spent or the open space supposedly being lost.
