The land has never been managed for the three equal purposes of racecourse, public park, and public reserve. At least the Minutes give some insight into why, such as very little regard for the management of conflict of interest. They couldn’t even agree that conflict of interest could arise or that there should be a CRRT policy covering this. How pathetically weak to leave it up to individual Trustees to declare a conflict if they felt like it.
In a comment in response to the previous post, Anonymous #1 stated “this blog has turned into a hate medium”, simply because the blog published the Minutes of a CRRT meeting. One definition of “hate” could be “intense dislike”. And I intensely dislike the management regime that applies to the public land called Caulfield Racecourse Reserve. When the MRC Trustee members don’t see the problem with managing the land for just their personal interest as members of the MRC we desperately need a stronger governance framework.
The CRRT itself could help by, for example, publishing its Minutes; by stating whether it considers itself a public entity; by listing the relevant Acts, Regulations, and policies that apply to its management of crown land; by establishing revenue streams and publishing public accounts of the disbursement of monies, highlighting the division between racecourse, public park, and public reserve purposes; and ceasing the treatment of everything the MRC does as not-for-profit.
It could also regain some measure of control over the land that it has outsourced to the MRC, and start work on strategies to ensure the MRC finally lives up to the Agreement. This will inevitably involve changes to the gradients of the land to restore it in the proximity of the edges to its natural contours, consultation with the community about fencing, and an end to the expectation that Council will continue to deny residents the enjoyment of their land along Queens Avenue. While not part of the Agreement, the gradual removal of many of the physical fence barriers that alienate people from their land would be a step in the right direction towards restoring an appropriate balance between the various purposes the land has putatively been reserved for.
I noticed a new soccer pitch by the lake at the race course, it looked unused. Does anyone know anytning about why it was built, and for whom, and why it not being used?
The caulfield Reserve Trust has become interestred in the interests of racing as these “gnetlemen” consist of six members nominated by the Melbourne Racing Club and many of the others… whether they be “community” nominees or government representatives also been members of either the MRC or other racing clubs or carrying out racing ministeries such as Mr. Tanner, Mr Granter, Mr.Sword,Mr Reynolds and Hon Judge Marshall. One of these “gentlemen” even threatened to run over citizens on “our Crown Land”. When this was drawn to the attention of the CRRT at the next meeting it was passed over as being to late!
So what outcomes would a normal person expect if the majority of those on the Trust are interested in racing? The min utesindicate Ms. Lau, who has been associated with the MRC must be congratulated for her community justice at the Trustee meeting and then we come to the other three current Glen Eira Council nominees appointed by the government. They usually go with the MRC Tide and HYAMS, LIPSHUTZ and ESAKOFF were strangely enough members of the Caulfield Racecourse Special committee of “four”… of our brilliantly unrepresentative council .to hand every wish of the Melbourne Racing Club on a golden platter with no interest in securing any above ground entry for the residents of Victoria even at VCAT… (decisions were made on the side) against the interests of residents. And then there was the specially appointed Cr Stephen Tang, the budding lawyer, who did not have time to attend the CRRT meetings even though there were only two a year when the big carve up of the triangle etc was being discussed.. Is it any wonder the residents have been robbed in our council and the government’s support of this “racing” enterprise which managed to gather together about $22 million dollars last year. The Melbourne Racing club usually ensures all politicians agree with their wishes by forwarding tickets to all club meetings while Glen Eira Residents struggle to subsidise this “non Profit” business running at our expense.
The soccer pitch and all parts provided by a mere “crumb” thrown out to the public by the Melbourne Racing Club, however, they are keeping this a secret by not providing any signage “as directed by one of the many agreements” to advertise the publlic park. Clearly the visitors are always unwelcome. Sometimes the toilets have been left filthy for days on end and it seems as if no one is responsible even though there was a union function attended by thousands.
by the way the soccer pitch is only a mini pitch. In all that land they could not even provide a full one. The only ones too use it as far as I know are North Caulfield Maccabi. However it is clearly stated that there is to be no organise games there ie you cannot have a permanent team there. I like as well the signs on the racecourse fence on Glenhuntly oval. ‘No loud noise’ by order of racecourse management. 1 they dont exist and also they dont have any right to say this!
People on this blog are far too critical of the MRC development at Caulfield racecourse. The development will provide some much needed public housing near public transport and should be applauded rather than criticised.
sports oval shortage is sorted according to the leader. 2000 fish in the polluted lake at Caulfield. Each child who cant get on a team can catch one fish each. Fun!
Yes the fish are coming but if they survive in the lake, “lucky fishers” are well warned that there is a need to throw them back (MRC doen’t say but the water of surrounding streets which flow into that lake would be too polluted)

This facility is for Macabi’s exclusive use, or what, and why has it been kept under wraps?

Helicopter noise was ok for the horses. A few kids kicking a footy or soccer ball is a no no.

There is no public housing. Not enough profit and conveniently cut out with council’s approval from the development plans and amendment.
