We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
Pilling (not the brightest bulb on the tree) should be reminded that street lighting is a Council issue. The well known fact that lighting also prevents crime does not make it a policing issue.
Pilling’s logic and Council’s obvious unwillingness, despite a significant government handout, to take up its share of ensuring a safe environment for the community shows how fundamentally flawed this Council is.
I put the blame on the Kellie Dwyer – if she had said the grant was for concrete paths in public parkland then Glen Eira would have been first in line, with both hands out.
Bet yas that no councillor hangs round stations at night to see what goes on and that none of these buggers are around car parks where mary jane wafts out from the parked cars. On yas councillors for doing bugger all.
There’s a Trustee meeting set down for early August. This time held in the Trustees’ ‘offices’ in town and not at the Racecourse venue itself. Make of this what you will. It should also be noted that the Trustees’ website that previously featured the links to various documents has now been turned into normal text – ie. the links to letters are now gone. Again, make of this what you will. See: http://www.crrt.org.au/Notices.aspx The agenda for the next meeting is also available from this site.
Caulfield has the lowest amount of open green space in Victoria. Under Mr Southwick residents and sports clubs across Caulfield struggle to find space for recreational use whilst the new park in the centre of the racecourse sits empty. This is public land which should be accessible to all.
Nick Staikos ALP candidates for Bentleigh is not interested the public having access to his private racecourse. He seems very content to help the MRC keep control.
Bull – they believed the MRC’s promises and gave them everything they wanted, now the MRC says screw you. If this mob was serious they would never have signed the absolutely useless joint communique on removal of training (2008), the perimeter fencing would be fixed (2011), they would have been willing to include, in the C60 Development Plan planning conference, the centre parkland that exists across the street and they would not have allocated over $200K for ripping up Redan Street (loss of 15 parking spaces and against the wishes of 95% of Redan residents) to make an attractive means of access to Caulfield Park (already maxed out) for the C60 ghetto dwellers who don’t even exist yet.
After years of silence on the racecourse issue just what this open, transparent Council doing that it wont tell residents about.
I’m afraid that praising councillors for their commitment to opening up the racecourse rings very hollow. The 3 new councillors coming in at the last election have some excuse. The others very definitely do not. Still, it’s almost two years since the elections and I cannot remember reading here anything that suggests that council administration and councillors pulled out all stops to force the MRC to act in accordance with the useless agreement. One person has already commented upon fences and the removal of training which has died a slow and silent death. It’s all very well for councillors to beat their chests now in mock outrage when the game have already been won by the Melbourne Racing Club. The long drawn out history of the C60 should never be forgotten by residents since at every step of the way, all obstacles to development were cleverly removed and impediment after impediment put in the way of residents. Secret meetings no doubt occupied much of Newton’s and the gang’s time and all to the detriment of Caulfield and the financial benefit of the Melbourne Racing Club and its political supporters.
Council opposition to MRC a farce
1. Andrew Newton’s column beside the heading in Glen Eira
News”Racecourse Plan Agreement Approved before residents even
asked. And then the whole area of 120 acres presented with miniscule
written details in less than a half page article.
2 Letter concerning this planning application sent to residents (most;y
itinerant flat dwellers) unsourced and unsigned.
3 Planning meeting location changed without notice and the doors locked.
4 Planning Officer had no electronic pointer or even a broom handle to point out her topics of conversationwhen discussing the plan for 120 acres on the 10 square metre wall image.
5 Cr tang too busy to attend Caulfield Racecourse Trust Meetings on our behalf at the meetings
6 Council supported MRC in failing to provide above ground access to the Reserve at VCAT and CRRT also did by aparent disinterest.
7 MOST IMPORTANTLY ALL DECISIONS CONCERNING MRC AND RACECOURSE ETC MADE BY FOUR SPECIAL COUNCILLLORS ESAKOFF, HYMES, LIPSHUTZ, and PILLLING and strangely enough they have all been sitting in council, discussing and voting on the Reserve now, even though the first three are Trustees BUT THEY ARE NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE REPORTS OF CRRT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
I beg to differ D. Evans, the 3 newbies, being half way through their term, have no excuse. They all have no qualms about getting up and speaking about the C60 development and voting in favour of it..
All Councillors and the Administration deserve boatloads of crap heaped upon them for their handling of the C60 development. The only difference between the 3 newbies and the 6 others is the size of the pile.
On the Caulfield Racecourse I have noticed a massive amount of land land locked between training tracks that could fit 3 or 4 junior soccer pitches and this is completely unused. My expectation is that everything from the artificial track to the middle will be made available for the community. Leaving huge amounts of land landlocked between there and the main track including jumps. What would they use them for anymore?

Where was Labor at the last election? They are both bad as each other.

Libs, Labs, Greens present and past all demonstrate how poorly governed we are. That goes for the feds, state, and worst of all, local government.

Macca, I think you will find that all 9 councillors at Glen Eira are pushing very hard to open up Caulfield.

Unfortunately I am hearing from my local bottle shop that Esakoff is the frontrunner for next Mayor that will be 3 times or 4?. When will they learn?
