Glen Eira Debates is going from strength to strength. April has seen us break new ground in setting an all time monthly record of 14,066 hits – that’s over 2000 more than our previous record in March. The past two weeks have also witnessed consecutive highs with just on 3,700 hits per week.
We thank our readers for their contributions thus far, and in particular thank Glen Eira Council for providing us with all the necessary fodder for our posts. It’s becoming increasingly obvious that the disenchantment with this council is mounting – our stats are evidence of this. What is also clear is that residents appreciate the opportunity to voice their opinions, discuss issues and share information. Something we believe is totally alien to this council.
We reaffirm our commitment to present all views; to inform the community as to what is really going on, to analyse issues, provide evidence, and continue to publish in the public interest. Your support thus far has been terrific and we ask that you continue publicising our existence. The community’s voice can, and ultimately will, make a difference to the way this council functions!

I, for one, certainly appreciate your efforts GlenEira. It’s incredibly important that people get the full story of what is going on instead of the distortions and spin that comes out of council meetings and media releases. Recent events show us exactly how the public relations department works. Reprobate’s comments are also important because they again highlight the fact that we, the public, are held captive to whatever this administration decides to disseminate – and it’s never the full story, the full facts, and never, but never anything that would cast a shadow over their operations. In the end though, spin is always gossamer thin and highly vulnerable to the winds of change!

If readers are interested in why Cr Pilling voted as he did on the C60, then we advise you to have a look at his blog where his full scripted statement is available. There are also some interesting comments posted to a previous post. We especially love thesse paragraphs: “Parking – the parking arrangements which restrict parking in the centre on the whole to race and the ten major event days whilst acknowledging aren’t ideal are workable. I accept they were the best arrangements that could be agreed by both parties in the conducted negotiations” AND “Through this agreement, the MRC can no longer deny the wider community its due rights to share the racecourse on equal terms and should continue to engage and improve community involvement on the crown land it occupies and shares”.
Would anyone like to buy Cr. Pilling a dictionary, since he appears to lack an understanding of what the word ‘equal’ actually means?

A few thoughts about this blog-site, the content and some of the comments.
Some of the postings are informative and offer insights to what is happening particularly at Council meetings and that is to be applauded.
Increasingly though it seems a case of councillor/council bashing no matter what the merit of decisions made, myself being the latest recipient.
I appreciate constructive critisism but many of the postings/comments seem otherwise.
I have found all the councillors to be decent, conciencious and hard working – in short it is a good team to work amongst.
I stand by both my recent decisions on the racecourse centre and C60 and challenge the moderator and readers in the real world (not cyber) of how they would have delivered better outcomes given the circumstances.

Cr Pilling did you know that the centre of the Caulfield Racecourse Reserve is but a fraction of what should have been discussed and dealt out to us the residents of \vicytoria. Surely if the racing club has the uswe of the majority of the area for the majority of the hours of the day then the whole of the middle could have been maqde available with a wide open road which was geratitiously handed to the MRC AT BARGAIN PRICES in the years gone by. By attempting to settle for a alleyway from Glen Eira road gate which the MRC still owns then we may have to walk through a mile long tunnel to gain access to the open space which would be just as unpleasant as the tunnel near the station.
Also Cr Pilling do you really think the so called centre is a satisfactory result which you helped to come about when in fact this is only ABOUT 15% OF THE TOTAL CAULFIELD RACECOURSE RESERVE?
Already we see more fences and obstructions appearing!
