From Melbourne Bayside Weekly –
Caulfield racecourse plans not quite bolting ahead
The club has also appealed against two conditions the council put on the subdivision approval. The conditions relate to easements and access to the entrance of a tunnel leading to the centre of the racecourse. Both issues will be heard at the same VCAT hearing. Mediation and hearing dates have yet to be set. The club declined to comment on why it had appealed.
When the subdivision application was lodged, three public objections were received. Concerns included increased traffic, tree removal and inadequate consultation about the proposal. Residents were also worried about what the club would build on the land.
The subdivision is separate from the $1 billion residential development at Caulfield Village, which Planning Minister Matthew Guy approved last month.
Ms Healy, who lives about 100 metres from the racecourse, said she was disgusted with the Caulfield Village proposal and the land swap. She claimed Caulfield had less public space than anywhere in the state and that places where people could walk and play needed to be protected.

I hope Mary has described the land better than the half wit that subbed the article in the Leader. Booran Rd is a fair walk from Station St. I am told the Leader uses volunteers as reporters. Why not blame Rupert for this as well.

Tsk, Tsk! It’s not the Leader but Fairfax!

I don’t know how vcat works or appeals so could someone please explain how come a developer like the MRC doesn’t have to provide the grounds of their appeal but if an ordinary resident wants to object to a development they have to specify the grounds on which they’re objecting. This doesn’t seem fair to me.

Pretty simple answer, they do. If it is about the land that involves C60 then that is special, thanks to Mr. Maddern. Land outside what the Planning Scheme refers to as the Phoenix Precint should have grounds. If they so no, then argue.

I hope Glen Eira Council are paying for her legal bills. They have been quick to fork out for Mr Newton and his petty squabbles, surely they can assist a resident?

It would not be in the interests of the GE Council to pay for a finding which showed it had made yet another “slight mistake” type of “giving up the green” decision which in overloolking our guaranteed entry to the CENTRE OF THE RACECOURSE (c15% ) by way of a road but instead a “Right of Carriageway” OVER 3 SEPARATE LOTS RUNNING ON A 72DEGREE ANGLE TO THE BELOVED TUNNEL.
Any ideas how well it will work between 140,000 residents, the said Caulfield Racecourse trustees, the Melbourne Racing Club as prized tenantr of the 85% of centre and maybe three owner of these lots when if 5 years tthe MRC either chooses to cash in on these lots for thirty storey building developments or when “gambling legislation” proceeds through commonwealth Parliament and their approx. 800 poker machines don’ brinbg in the cool billion or so and kmaybe theswe lots need to be sold. Maybe the tunnel will be as long as the St Bernard Tunnel to reach the racecourse.
Also Rebecca Thistleton cannot be criticised for thinking the park.was extending to Station Street as the address of Station Street was listed with all including also Kambrook Road and Booran Road. Of interest the Station Street property was the south end of Bond Street which ran all the way to a 90degree angle of Glen Eira Road and seemed to fall into the MRC’s luck possession around 1961. I GUESS IT WAS OBTAINED AT BARGAIN BASEMENT PRICES FROM OUR CARING COUNCIL AT THAT TIME!!!
INCIDENTALY THE EAST END OF GLEN EIRA ALSO CAME INTO MRC’S REAL ESTATE BUNDLE IN MUCH THE SAME WAY AND NOW 130,000 residents haqve to creep across a “Right of Way” which from aq brief study don’t appear to work even between two parties.
OUR COUNCIL SHOULD HAVE CALLED FOR A ROADWAY AND FOR THE RE_OPENING OF BOND STREET TO NTAKE ALL THE EXCESS TRAFFIC FROM C60 AWAY WITH SPEED SO AS THE KILOMETRE LONG TRAFFIC ALON=G KAMBROOK ROAD COULD BE SHARED BY THE ORGANISATION WHICH IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM!!!!
