Standing room only, Can’t remember the last time the vote for mayor was contested. We may have two or even three going for job. Then the deputy. A night of entertainment, and then nibbles and drinks.

Do you reckon that the new Mayor will be able to give his speech about what a great council this is and how everyone is a team, or part of a ‘club’ without his tongue sticking so far into his cheek that plastic surgeons will be called in to perform major surgery? I’d also have an independent notetaker available so that they could pinpoint and then edit out all the hypocrisy.

Mayor was last publicly contested in 2006 – Robilliard nominated Rob Spaulding, Ashmor nominated Esakoff. Vote was 6-2 for Esakoff.
In 2007 Tang was elected Mayor unopposed but for deputy Mayor Whiteside nominated Esakoff, Staikos nominated Robilliard – vote 5-2 for Esakoff.
As far as I can recall there have been no elections during the term of the current council.
While the previous council was also controlled by a “gang”, (Lipshutz, Tang, Esakoff, Whiteside, Feldman, Ashmor) at least there were some councillors prepared to publicly stand up and put an alternative view.

Thanks Glen Eira. I missed that one.
I guess it does qualify as an election but what Lobo thought he was doing I have no idea.
And it certainly demonstrates how allegiances have changed in just 12 months.
Pilling nominating Esakoff and Penhalluriack nominating Hyams!
Here’s hoping we see something different this year.

The annual Circus is about to begin.
The election results are only the public part of the (usually sham) elections. All done for show. The real election, like all real council business, is done secretly behind closed doors. NOTE All council decisions made secretly at ‘pre-meetings’, ‘assemblies’ etc are illegal. This sham, and shambles, has been going on for over a decade now.
I expect the lawyers – as usual – will split hairs, pretending no actual decisions are made behind closed doors. Still, like all Circuses, the show must go on. Bring on the Clowns, and the Ringmaster..

Lobo has crossed over to the dark side. If you can’t beat them, join them. Isn’t that right Cr Lobo.

Lobo has just work out that MORALS, INTEGRITY, and RESPECT ARE NOT AS IMPORTANT AS BEING ON THE WINNING SIDE. I think he won’t be on the winning side next October. Along with Esakoff,Hyams and Lipshutz.
