Hello Brett, can you please post up the link as to the aforementioned alliances and associations of candidates in Tucker Ward coming election.
Thank you

Hi Herc,
I think you’ll find it right above you, the list of candidates supporting Cr Hyams, Gatoff and Cr Magee. NB: Gatoff is supporting Cr Lobo

When you’ve got that many dummies running for you then you must be shit scared of getting rolled hey Jamie my boy? You’ll go down in history as the first mayor not to be re-elected maybe.

Good luck Brett. Just a word of advice. Try and distance yourself from Cr Pilling. As a member of ‘the gang’, he will turn on the greens and support his new best mates, Lipshutz, Esakoff and Hyams. Just look what he did when he went against Sue Pennicuik and Greg Barber over the Caulfield racecourse fiasco.

Brat – The greens have very little hope of getting the required votes. Loyalty of Bentleigh and East Bentleigh is majority Labor and few Liberals. The policies of Greens are irritating and good for nothing. People have already begun talking negatively about your party.

Who is this guy Raj that appears on Brett’s voting card as number 9?. What has motivated him to stand for election? Does he have some hidden agendas? (MODERATORS: rest of comment deleted. We strongly urge this commentator to refrain from comments of this nature. Next time we will not publish any section of such comments which are clearly racist)

A bit unfair calling them all “stooges”. Certainly many of them are – but I think a few of them are serious candidates hoping to get elected on preferences.
I think De’Ath, Okotel and possibly one of Lipshutz’ mates (maybe Kuran – certainly not Kraina or Weil who are classic stooges) might be fall into this category.
In fact Lipshutz, doesn’t need 4 stooges – he could get elected on his own – so I suspect he is trying to get enough votes to get one of his “mates” elected on preferences. For Forge to get elected Frank will probably need to increase his vote from the previous election. Although their policy (which they can’t deliver) of zero rate increases will help them.
Hyams is doing the same in Tucker. Run lots of stooges, split the vote and rely on preference deals.
And Esakoff will likely top the vote in Rosstown and is probably hoping this will get Okotel elected on her preferences.
What this suggests to me is that, rather than simply protecting their positions, the “gang” are actually making a push to strengthen their control.

Not so sure about Esakoff being a shoe in – a lot of people got turned off over C60, the heritage issue, not to mention all the development she has been pushing into Murrumbeena and Carnegie. She may be better than other Councillors at responding to residents calls but she still fobs them off with the same crap (i.e. she does it quicker). As for her stooge Okotel – ask her about something relevant to residents (eg. open space, traffic, parking, new planning zones, structure plans, rate increases) and it’s stunned mullet.

Most of the people in Rosstown do not know where the race track is. They are more concerned about the railway gates.
October 5, 2012 at 12:46 AM
Not only must you live under a rock, but it can’t be in Glen Eira. Caulfield racecourse is the greatest piece of public land in inner Melbourne. Railway gates are a con by Hyams. They have been taliking about it for at least the last forty years, but too costyly. Ain’t gonna happen for the next 20years I reckon despite Hyams political rant recently.

Looks like Mr Lipshutz has no confidence in his own beliefs and ability if he requires four Stooges to get a place on council again. I think this is almost gaining a spot via the back door and not good for anyone especially for the wider community. Put this along side with the majority of people from the same community in the area who would vote simply on his surname alone, not good at all.

Talk about another BIG fobber offer (MODERATORS: name deleted)
Anyone thinking of voting for him should seriously think again.
He is not interested in what you think or want residents, mark my words.
Im talking from personal experience-particularly relating to traffic & planning matters. (MODERATORS: name deleted)fobbed us off (MODERATORS: rest of comment deleted)

Customers of Commonwealth Bank and Bank of Melbourne both in Bentleigh have complained to the respective banks that last week both candidates belonging to Greens party pasted six large posters (without the permission of the banks) which threatened the customers of going into the branch to withdraw money from the ATM’s. (MODERATORS: Final sentence deleted).
COMMENT BY MODERATORS: We know nothing of this allegation, including its veracity, and if Mr Hedger and the other Green candidates would care to respond we will post your comments unedited.

I think you are misunderstanding what a stooge is. A stooge would not have coreflutes. A stooge would distribute flyers. Not at a Council election. A number of the people that have done these things have been lablelled as stooges. Strange thing that the Greens have swapped preferences with Gatoff (ALP) and put Lobo (ALP) way down their list. Oscar has been done over. Glen Eira I suggest you be tread carefully with the stooge label. Okatel has her face in alot of gardens, far more that Gatoff and you haven’t labelled him as stooge. Maybe you should include fair judgement in your toolbox.

Just looked up dictionary.com. Here’s what they say about the origin of the word “stooge”. “Word Origin & History
stooge
1913, “stage assistant,” of uncertain origin, perhaps an alteration of student (with the mispronunciation STOO-jent), in sense of “apprentice.” Meaning “lackey, person used for another’s purpose” first recorded 1937, perhaps influenced by the Three Stooges film comedy act, which had been appearing in movies since 1930, starting as “Ted Healy and His Stooges.”
“person used for another’s purpose” sounds good to me and would describe many of the candidates for sure. Some of your argument Anon leaves me very confused. Posters in gardens is a sign according to you of not being a stooge. I can thing of heaps of better arguments than that. For one thing not every candidate who is really independent is flush with money and we’ve still got 3 weeks to go. Maybe you should ask Okotel if all her posters and placards are being funded by someone or by some political party? I’m also very cautious about accepting your claim that Gatoff is ALP since he’s proclaiming himself as “independent”. Is Dempsey also ALP on this same logic? Even better Anon, are you a closet Liberal perhaps?

Hello – My name is Thomas Sounness and I am writing to settle your question mark against my name above. In Camden ward, am fairly sure that I am the only candidate that is Publicly an endorsed candidate of a political party. I’ve been a supporter of the Greens as an alternative party for a long time, and only recently decided to present myself as a candidate for local government. I plan to offer my experience in urban design, public place making and economic viability of mixed use urban areas towards Council’s decision making.
In partial reply to MacKinnon above, my stalls have been in along Glenhuntly Road and I did not place any posters in a way to ‘threaten’ people using the ATM. I feel that the queue in an ATM should not be seen as a captured audience for political canvassing. I hope that people don’t see my stalls as a threatening experience.
As to how to vote and for who to vote, I hope the ratepayers and voters can find the time to decide for themselves who it is that is a real candidate running for office, and who is a candidate seeking to support someone else’s run for office. If you are unclear about my motivation, I *am* seeking *my* election to Council.

The Greens are a splintered party with different views on Caulfeld Racecourse. Are you on the Pennicuik side of the party or the Pilling side? Speaking of Pilling, there was an interesting article in the Leader on an article ran here called “the Claytons Agreement”. Pilling signed that agreement along with Esakoff, Lipshutz and Hyams. Also interesting comment by Michael Bolte. Looks like the journos at the Leader are avid readers of this blog.

No worries, if they have the B….lls they will comment.

A lot of these Candidates have photos up but do not really say what they will do.
October 8, 2012 at 4:47 PM
Cisco – have a look at the achievements of the incumbent councillors and be guided. The other candidates have not achieved any thing and more over do not do any community work other than paid work and businesses.
October 8, 2012 at 5:49 PM
Pray tell, enlighten us, exactly what has Lipshutz, Esakoff and Hyams achieved. Esakoff’s slogan ‘proven commitment to community’ is both untrue and as wide of the mark as it is possible to get.
