We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
Lipshutz, Pilling, Hyams and Esakoff do not deserve to be reelected after their betrayal of residents by voting for Caulfield Village. The Caulfield Racecourse agreement was supposed to be the big carrot but it isn’t being enforced by Council. What a load of crap. Can we please get some Councillors who follow through and look after residents?
Ben, you need to venture into the centre of the racecourse. It looks a treat with decking around the lake, BBQ areas and a large fountain. The MRC have done a fine job. Once Council live up to their side of the agreement and replace the tin fence with palisade, the whole community will use this great Glen Eira asset . Newton is holding it up but the new Council will get this happening.
What utter bull – the MRC are only doing it as a pay back to State Govt for all disgraceful agreement to enter the infamous land swap. If the MRC had their way it would be a permanent carpark. Newton doesn’t give a hoot – all he cares about is taking the credit and the great spin it will create in the Glen Eira News.
I like what I’m reading in Dr Dempsey’s responses – they are sensible and measured and astute enough to pinpoint the flaws in the current council’s operations, processes and practices. I also agree that consultation is the key to everything and it is this which has been sabotaged by the majority of current councillors. I wish Dr Dempsey and the other new faces the very best for the upcoming elections. As a municipality we are in desperate need of new blood.
Well said Kate. I’d be amazed if Lipshutz Esakoff Hyams and Pilling had the guts to answer any of these questions. GERA did you people get anything from them?
Kate- you’ve left off one of the most critical issues of concern to the GE Elsternwick residents- what will you pledge to do baout the significantly increased & increasing by the day traffic& ratruns especially in local residential streets around main shopping strips (which are 40kph speed limited) while in surrounding local streets 50kph speed limit (in itself an idiotic council decision) & rat-runs created with speeding drivers (driving more than 50kph in most cases) using our side streets as drive through, killing our pets on the roads & dangerous to little kids, cyclists & pedestrians.
In fact elderly residents I lknow dare not cross these streets these days!
Kate, if you pledge/and do if elected- put in place calming measures in the first 6-12 months, make roundabouts wider/narrow down side streets to slow cars down, I promise to vote for you now (Igive you my pledge now).
For all of Dr. Dempsey’s Local Gov. experience she shows little understanding of Town Planning. Regardless of what the Council does VCAT only needs to take into account the Glen Eira Planning Scheme. Also regardless of what sort of building that Councillors think may look good and be great design you cannot legislate against bad taste. Imposing character overlays across the City would be difficult. Pop up Parks are a great idea but the risk would be calculated and Councillors would be advised not to support the concept. One positive is that Kate would be on hand to run a few change management courses for the staff. Following the training most of Kate’s idea would probably get a big tick.
I reckon she shows more town planning experience than the Council planning deparment. At least she knows what a structure plan really is and can identify when the title “structure plan” is applied to a plan that’s content bears no resemblance to a structure plan. Something current incumbent Councillor’s either cannot do or unwilling to speak up about.
Oh and by the way, real structure plans are rarely overturned at VCAT, where as Council’s plans are over turned on a regular basis.
Ms. Dempsey – You sound to be Demsel in distress! Do you have a hidden agenda? You say your clients are some local government authorities and do intend asking G.E. to direct business to your company? A busy business lady like you will have no time for Council job.
What about such busy people as Tang, Lipshutz, Hyams who can’t even make it all the time to scheduled meetings. They’re certainly too busy to be councillors and Tang by not standing has admitted this. Beside this, you are a nasty piece of work aren’t you?
Smart aleck it’s time to put full name to your comments especially political comments. Venting your spleen may make u feel better but readers are turned off by your comments and gives glen eira debates a a bad name Smarten up Aleck
I read comments like this and have to ask myself whether we’re both living on the same planet and what’s he got to gain by writing such rubbish. He wouldn’t be doing it unless there was something to be gotten out of it. My suspicion is that his offices are in the town hall or his friends with some of those dictators and maybe he gets a few early tips and maybe some kickbacks too? Otherwise he’s just plain stupid if he can’t see what 14 years of Newton and 6 years of Lipshutz and the rest of the pack have given residents. Here’s a fresh voice that should be heard and listened to and voted for. My sister will agree with every word Kate wrote and she’s got both of our votes plus extended families votes. The best of Irish luck Kate.
No, we don’t know if they answered the questions, although on past history we would assume that they didn’t. We suggest that you contact GERA directly with your question – geresidents@hotmail.com
Peter Jenkins – You seem to be living under the rock. People in business are always looking out for opportunities otherwise they would not be called business people. You are indeed Richard Cranium.
Well everyone, I hesitate to respond to the posts here as some are so ill informed. However, just to correct the record for “Tom of Elsternwick” my business is quite stable and well established, thank you. I am certainly not looking for work from Glen Eira and of course it would not be allowed for me to be a consultant to the City as well as a councillor. It would rightly be considered a conflict of interest. In addition I am not a “Demsel” but rather a Doctor!

Now here’s a question that should have been asked of Cr. Tang and GE’s use of the legal firm Maddocks while he is employed there.
