This sounds great. Nothing like a Mass Debate.

If this one is an informative as the recent GERA one I’ll be there.
Full credit to this candidate for organising it – the GERA one showed me it was much better to have an open mass debate than talking to candidates (or their fathers or their spouses) one on one.

I will be there too!

Good luck with the function. There will be around 18,000 voting in the Tucker Ward in two weeks time. Most of the people that turn up will be dead against the current council and spend their time all agreeing with each other. Candidates would be better off door knocking.

Hopefully all the “Anons” will be present there and name them selves by stating which comment they have given or responded to the issues on this blog. It will also be seen from the numbers attending if the Anons are in big numbers or the same 4-6 people writing over and over again on this blog.

Kay, McKinnon – first time I have posted on this blog but I am a frequent reader. I find the issues raised on this blog and the various comments for the most part thought provoking and at least worthy of some consideration. Sure some comments don’t measure up but these are easy to skip or discount. As for the comments coming from only 4-6 people I doubt it – the number of comments, varying writing styles and contents of the comments indicate otherwise.
I’ve often heard Council and various Councillors criticise this blog as being negative and have often wondered about that. I am coming to the view that Council consider any alternate view as negative criticism. Instead of approaching the blog with an open mind and accepting that frequently the comments can be informative and include some constructive alternatives, often Councillors have been known to state that they ignore the blog. I wonder how many of them are closet readers and posters.

You have to be kidding. As I said, there will be a room full of people agreeing with each other. In those situations any opposing point of view is hounded out of the place. Candidates should be door knocking or walking up and down Centre Rd.

Yep, meetings bring like minded groups of people together to discuss stuff (be it business, politcal, church or sporting groups to name but a few).
In this case it is a group a new candidates standing for election to Council offering residents (collectively and singley) to meet them so that they can present their platforms and answer questions put to them. All benefit – the old cross pollination of ideas and the building of ideas (one thing leads to another) I have been to a number of these meetings and have never seen the hounding you claim.
Don’t see your reasoning at all. You door knocking, stopping people in the street doesn’t seem very informative to me – very limited exchange of ideas if you ask me.
Still every one is entitled to their opinion.
