The following email was sent to all councillors and candidates in response to an email from a resident –
Dear Mr. XXXX
Thank you for your e-mail of today.
You will receive a response soon from our Mayor Cr. Jamie Hyams. As you have endorsed a copy of your e-mail to me as a Councillor, I thought I would give you an interim response.
I am not sure if you are aware that the Council works according to the framework and directives given to us by the State Government in respect to developments. Based on that the birth of a policy takes place.
Also you may have heard, the state government is aiming to have 5 million people in Victoria by the year 2030 .
Therefore, developments have to mushroom within our suburbs as the government does not like to extend the developments outside built up areas due to the cost of exorbitant amount of money to establish new infrastructure.
Unfortunately, we will find it very challenging to have more open spaces even if people are pledging that they would ensure more open space unless of course we have the ability of performing a magic. Same applies to ther (sic)pledges.
As I said in my second paragraph above, your dilemma in the captioned subject mayl (sic) be addressed in due course.
Kind Regards
Oscar Lobo
Councillor
Tucker Ward

Is it just me or is this a nonsensical response?
October 17, 2012 at 1:30 PM
“Nonsensical” isn’t the right word here. More likely it’s Lobo learning the Lipshutz tactics of denigration and scapegoating. Nothing is ever council’s fault and candidates who make “pledges” shouldn’t be believed. Joke is, that we’re expected to believe this load of codswallop. Lobo would be better employed by explaining to ratepayers why nothing has been done about the planning scheme or why when the Alma club could have been council’s for a song, these useless sods did nothing. He could also try to explain why this council wastes so much money since he’s supposed to be a banker and should know how to balance the books properly. Residents could also ask him what happened to his cry for cost-benefit analysis before he flung his lot in with the gang. A pathetic little email to someone isn’t going to get him any votes. It shows how desperate he is.

there are plenty of ‘brownfield sites’ ripe for development (Hyams term for MRC development) available in the area eg Caulfield Park Carnegie Pool, etc

Anon of 1.30 I would initially take the view that this Councillor has taken the time to at least answer the Ratepayer. You lot want public consultation and when it occurs all you do is take the opportunity to rubbish Council. Congratulations Cr Lobo and please disregard the knockers who spend all day waiting for their chance to critisize.
October 17, 2012 at 1:55 PM
I respectfully suggest that you are way off the mark here Anon. Yes, Cr Lobo has responded. Unfortunately, he has literally said nothing. I’d very much query your assertion that an email such as this in any shape or form constitutes “consultation”. I’d label this as unadulterated electioneering and pushing the council line.
Criticism is justified here on many counts. Lobo’s answer does nothing except to throw his hands in the air and imply that there’s nothing that council can do. The scores of posts on this website would indicate that this is far from the truth. I will mention only a few – height limits, parking precinct plans, buffer zones, structure plans. As far as I can see the labelling of a “do nothing council” is appropriate and just. Lobo’s reply to this resident merely confirms the accuracy of this labelling.

Considering his response, none would have been better.

The shorter Oscar –
I don’t have clue what I’m talking about. It must be someone else’s fault. But I’ll do something . . . sometime . . . maybe . .

I give
Effort in Responding = 2
Content of Reponse = -10

Poor Oscar. They let him out of the cage when it suits and give him very very very important stuff to bring up like flag poles and men’s sheds so he’ll stick his hand up at the right moment after he’s been programmed like the Pavlov beasts by Lipshutz and his other lap dogs.

I think you are being too generous. I wish you were marking my exams.

Oscar is supported by people that are hoping Gatoff will be elected.

Number 1, 4, 5 and D.Evans – You guys are sick! Go and put efforts in helping the community rather than using work e-mails. You are all morons
and do not know how respected Oscar and his family are.
