There must be real fun and games going on at the count. We now have confirmation of the THIRD DELAY! (See below). There are two possibilities for these continued delays – (1) computer problems, or (3) major argey-bargey with and between scrutineers. If the latter then we assume things are indeed very, very, close in at least 2 wards.
“Dear Candidates,
Here’s the promised update.
The calculation will now take place for all wards in alpha order commencing at 6pm this evening.
The declaration has now been tentatively set for 9am tomorrow morning. The venue remains the same.

One of the downsides of proportional representation and a manifestation of Arrow’s Impossibility Theorem is the potential for the outcome to show sensitive dependence on initial conditions aka Chaos Theory. The order in which candidates are eliminated [politically, not literally] can have a radical effect on the overall outcome. Bummer about the delay, as I’m sure we’re all keen to know who it is that will ignore community input for the next 4 years and will support the status quo (read Administration) at every opportunity.

Anyone notice on the VEC website that the Greens candidate from Camden has dropped below 2000 votes now? Was Newton doing the adding?

They’ve all dropped. A few hours ago the counts were:
Lipshutz – 5284
Souness – 2023
Penhalluriack – 2168Delahunty – 4631

Informals have jumped a couple of per cent in all wards. This means they have probably looked at all the votes again and rejected some that had previously been accepted as valid.
I’m not totally familiar with how the count is done. But I think that they run the distribution of preferences during the count to test it.
In situations where the result is very close they may decide to look at all the votes again and re-enter the data – especially if one candidate requests it.
Looks like this is what might have happened.
Suggests things are very tight in both Camden and especially Tucker.

Yeah vote counting in Glen Eira goes something like this. Vote for gang member, valid. Vote for Penhallurick, invalid.
