Confidence level of this process is zero. Even Rex Hunt would be questioning the final result in Tucker ward.

I find these results very disappointing. I guess we can expect the same old lack of progress, poor governance and in-fighting to continue. Newton’s term will be extended etc.
Margaret’s side kick had no idea when I spoke to her 10 days ago.
Let’s hope I’m wrong but it is hard not to be disheartened.

Look on the bright side – Kuran didn’t get in. Unluckiest bugger must be Andonopoulos. Will be good to watch Magee now since he’s already announced he won’t stand again. Which way will he lean?
October 29, 2012 at 9:58 PM
The twists and turns and permutations are fascinating. 2 Greens, 4 Libs, 1 Labor (I don’t count Lobo as a real Labor man and Magee – well god knows where he sits). The gang aren’t going to have it all their own way. Okotel is an unknown quantity. Maybe shej does have a mind of her own. We will soon see.If I were Newton I wouldn’t be over the moon with this result. We do live in very interesting times.

You have some perverse notion of how councils operate. People are not expected to follow Party dogma. They will be dammed if they try. Watch the new Councillors become independant of thought. Delahunty and Okatel are both very intelligent women and will grow into their new role. I doubt the young Green will be banging on about Gay Marriage or Asylum seekers. He got 10% of the Camden vote. Hardly a screaming mandate to start ripping up the concrete footpaths or get solar panels onto all the pavillion. He will fit in well an provide another perpective through young eyes. He has a town planning background. I think the best thing about this new Council is the lowering of the average age. The new ladies are half the age of the people they replaced. That has to good for representive government.

What a disgusting view of the Camden Greens councillor! One day youll wake up when the ocean is at your backdoor (or more likely your grandkids backdoor & you’ll thank the Greenieenie for putting in the solar panels in your home.

You are living in the wrong city. Get yourself an education . If the Green raises climate change he will be laughed out of the city.
October 30, 2012 at 1:02 PM
The Greens have done a huge amount of damage to the Australian economy. There curtain is closing. If they try to get the stupid glabal warming initiatives that are costing Port Philip Council millions the Green boy will be seen as a joke. We do not have $20 million from parking revenue to support loonny leftie ideas. Like paying for all Aboriginals funerals.
October 30, 2012 at 4:00 PM
Oh dear oh dear….you’re clearly in touch with reality!
October 30, 2012 at 5:36 PM
10 % is no mandate. It doesn’t work like Canberra where you get to screw everyone with a casting vote. Your will see.
October 29, 2012 at 10:10 PM
Not the best outcome. We only get 3 new councillors.
Jim has been incredibly lucky. Also Camden must have been very close.
However, it will be interesting to see how the councillors line up.
Lipshutz, Hyams and Esakoff now have Okatel to back them up but who else can they rely on? Certainly not Jim. Lobo needs to lift his game. Pilling now has a Greens colleague, so will have more power and may be more assertive. The “gang” haven’t been able to increase their numbers so may not have things all their own way.
The election of Mayor will tell us more. I’m still putting my money on Pilling.

Assuming labor/green co-operation on some issues, that makes it 3 votes. Neither Magee or Lobo can be considered labor in the mould of Staikos. However, both are from Tucker Ward. So me thinks, Tucker Ward may be the winner in the next 4 years. With Penhalliurack gone, Lobo is the one to watch. Rosstown Ward can be ignored, but will be rewarded quietly. Camden is the tricky one, whichever way you look at it. Disappointing for Lipshutz, but much better than last time. Overall, administration won again.
October 30, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Wonder what you mean by Tucker Ward winning? More sport fields and greater density? And Rosstown Ward rewards? High rise developments, abolishing of heritage places, and less open space, but more bike lanes? Wonder what the Green candidates will be focused on?

Their navels, no doubt.

The sooner the incoming councillors are established, the sooner they can get cracking on preparing a new Council Plan in accordance with s125. Hope the budget for preparation hasn’t already been blown.
October 29, 2012 at 10:42 PM
From the Facebook pages of Read and Sounness respectively –
“I came in 4th with the all incumbent councillors re-elected. Gave them a shake up nonetheless. I achieved 17% vote in central Bentleigh and received an amazing amount of community support. Sadly Tucker has no woman representative for another 4 years. Proud of what was achieved and the great team who supported me.”
“And I have heard good news … that once the button was pushed, my name came out as the 3rd councillor for Camden Ward, and that I received 500 or so votes more than the next candidate. Presumably this makes me safe from a recount … which is probably very good news to those hard working folks in the VEC.”

The new Green boy is in for a shock. The little socialist Bant was busy stocking the Glen Eira booths with his followers on Saturday. If he expects a wave of socialism to sweep across our city which in part is one of the most conservative parts of Mrlbourne then he is in for a surprise.
October 30, 2012 at 12:08 AM
Okotel is a sleeping gang member they won’t have to target her because they already have her.
October 30, 2012 at 10:35 AM
sour grapes I know but where do we find out who funded the campaigns. Interesting to find out who paid for the signs that seemed to number 100’s for certain candiates.
October 30, 2012 at 2:25 PM
I think I can help you. First of all I reckon the bloke that had the most signs was the hardware man and his running mate. Those real estate signs would be about $400 each. I reckon he paid for them himself. Secondly the bloke in Bentleigh that had plenty of signs along Centre and North roads. I am sure he paid for them himself. He probably has the invoice as it is tax deductible up to a point. The normal coreflutes would vary depending on the size of the order. I suggest all of the candidates except the Greens paid for these themselves. Once again tax deductable. The main problem is the Greens. they have their deposit paid for by the Victorian Greens. This will be challenged with the Municipal Inspector and I am sure that the people drafting a revised Local Gov. Act will be watching carefully. You would have to question the integrity of a councillor when he is taking gifts from any group be they a political party or a single interest group. Many ALP candiadtes run small fund raisers to help with the cost for their preferred candidate. They may make a few hundred and would be happy with that. The Greens are using their website to provide free publicity for their candidates. They pay for the coreflutes and printing of shop posters. This should be costed and reported. The LGA outlines impartiallity and integrity. If a councillor is taking instructions from an outside group or voting according to a policy of a Party then it is wrong.
There are alot of Victorians not happy with the way council elections are turning out so expect some changes. Hopefully we all benefit. Hope this helps you.
October 30, 2012 at 2:47 PM
Under the Local Government Act, all candidates, whether elected or not, have to lodge a list of donations to the CEO within 40 days of the election. Not sure if these are made public.
October 30, 2012 at 4:14 PM
Be interesting to see the estimated figure that the greens put in for trhe use of a corporate web site for advertising.

From Mary Delahunty’s Facebook page –
“It is official, I am the second candidate elected for the Camden Ward of Glen Eira City Council. Thank you to everyone for your help and support. Congrats to the other successful candidates.
Thanks mostly to the people of Camden for your vote, it is indeed a humbling experience.
You have voted for change, for progressive representation and I will work hard to deliver that for you.”
October 30, 2012 at 2:50 PM
Does progressive include Aboriginal funerals paid for the Glen Eira ratepayers. Does progressive mean spending $1.5 mill. on a climatte change policy. Does progressive mean using ratepayers funds to subsidise child care. (Port Phillip) Get her to explain exactly what progressive means.
October 31, 2012 at 10:31 AM
it means left wing and labor values – she is a member of the ALP and she will bring her left wing views to what was a conservative council. so potentially with her green allies and labor voting allies.
October 31, 2012 at 1:48 PM
So you mean she wants the ratepayers to help pay for her childcare.
November 1, 2012 at 8:40 AM
yep
October 30, 2012 at 12:57 PM
The result was predictable. The folk here aren’t – regrettably – representative of the average voter who is either ambivalent or entirely uninterested.
All at White Hall will be delighted. Penhalluriack gone and all the movers and shakers are returned. Throw-in Okotel who will be to Esakoff what Hyams is to Lipshutz.
Hopefully the perennial candidate, Donny, will finally put his queue in the rack after yet another rejection. And Mary Delahunty will stand up and be counted as she asserts she will. So there are two pluses from a generally disappointing outcome.
October 30, 2012 at 2:43 PM
Forge got 649 First Preference votes. Has there ever been a lower vote count for a sitting councilor seeking re-election in Glen Eira??? Or anywhere???
And Penhalluriack dropping from 34.77% to 11.29% – has there ever been a bigger drop??
October 31, 2012 at 10:31 AM
look at henry buch – he is a sore loser
