We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
The lack of due diligence by council is now coming back to bite residents on the bum. Larger sites are ripe for the picking by developers and even smaller land blocks are fair game because there is no size limit on subdivisions in the planning scheme. Leaving out the city, I predict that Glen Eira will become the most dense municipality in the state and that’s all thanks to a pathetic planning department and pathetic councillors who aren’t doing their jobs.
Far too easy to handball everything onto the state government. There was plenty of scope within the zones for councillors to do a stack more. They did nothing but listen to the crap that Newton fed them and the best bit was to go along and not even bother to tell residents what was coming up. When everyone sells out and runs like hell away from Glen Eira leaving everything to become slum areas then Newton will be happy and councillors should be hung drawn and quartered for their stupidity in accepting this and even more for renewing his contract.
Real problem is that 200,000 skilled migrants are coming into the country each year taking our jobs and driving this development. Maybe we should all be a bit more cynical when we are made to feel happy that a few poor asylum seekers are locked up.
Okay, there’s immigration and the hordes are descending on Melbourne. That’s one version of what’s happening. It never will justify what this council is willing to accept and even encourage in terms of amenity for residents.

The State government is also to blame for this. Will Staikos or Miller do anything after the next election to help residences?
