All of the following houses make up one single street. The photos were apparently taken last Friday. Only two properties were not photographed because of high fences and there was one development on the corner.
We ask readers to guess:
- What’s the zoning for this street?
- Is there any overlay on these properties? – ie Heritage, Significant Character, Design and Development, etc?
- What might a ‘neighbourhood character’ statement say about such a street?

I would like to think that such a beautiful street has been recognised by our planners and councillors and not given over to overdevelopment via the zoning. Each house is setback metres from the street and all look like residents have invested much time and money to preserve their original features. If I had my way this would definitely be preserved under a significant overlay.

What your talking about, a chinese developer can fit a few thousand of their residents in this streets, and make a hanson profit to send back home, and buy real heritage real estate for their families

Any new development will ruin the street even it is double storey and not three or four storeys. For council to keep crapping on about neighbourhood character is the ultimate furphy if this is zoned anything like grz or rgz. Let one application get through and that’s the end of the charm and the street.

Gorgeous homes. Have to be in neighborhood zone. If not planners have to go

Chinese people don’t like this types of homes, too muck work, they prefer smaller multi-storey units with lots of family above and below and all around. From some places in Glen Eira, 3 floor up you see bay, this is very good Feng Shui. Lots of prestige knocking down old and replacing with new.
Good for everyone, dogs are very noisy, not so good for people

I own one of these houses! We are RGZ and within a few metres will have over 400 units along Neerim Rd over about 1 kilometre and into our street and the neighbouring one. It’s a living nightmare with years of construction, traffic congestion and overcrowding ahead.

Condolences on the impending death of your lifestyle, your peace and quiet, and your sanity. No longer will your home be your castle. You aren’t alone. Thousands more are being delivered against their will into the grubby claws of greed.
