We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
Herein is the problem. More staff, higher wages and less spent on services and without any public accountability.
Drains keep receiving 3.5m in the last few budgets. In reality that’s a reduction in spending since costs keep going up we’re told, but the base figure remains the same. It’s thus a reduction in what ratepayers get for their dollar. This 3.5 constant hasn’t even kept up with inflation much less cost increases.
Residents need to bear in mind that the Leader’s figures on ’employee costs’ do NOT include another $28m that is paid out to contractors. Many of these ‘contractors’ are almost permanent fixtures at Glen Eira and hence may in everything (apart from name) be regarded as ’employees’ of council.
Thus when $28m is added to the $67m, the combined total spent on personnel is astronomical and accounts for roughly 59% of council’s claimed income.
Top dollar for stuffing up, projects years behind schedule, over budget, lawyers coming out of the woodwork at every chance and they give him a pay rise and another 5 year contract. Unbelievable.
Trying prop up Stakios. Plenty of more deserving crossings than McKinnon and centre rd. Centre Rd Clayron is. Real car stopper slowing industrial and commercial traffic. Centre Rd Bentleigh and McKinnon Rd crossings slow down school mothers. Poor governance at its best. North Rd Ormond is well underway with the previous government. People are not that stupid.
