Finally, ‘victory’ appears to be on the horizon for the local community with the release of the committee’s report on the Trustees and Caulfield Racecourse issues. We’ve uploaded the full document HERE
In short, the recommendations are:
- All trustees to resign. If they refuse the government will introduce legislation which revokes the Crown Grant
- The department to be interim ‘manager’
- Preference is for a “separately legislated trust with specific accountabilities and functions” rather than a Committee of Management.
- Training to go within 5 years of renewal of leases

This is a black day for Glen Eira. As a municipality we have very few employment opportunities with the Racecourse being by far our largest. In 5 years if the recommendations come to fruition we will lose our largest employer .Well done Glen Eira and Council.

Actually it’s a very good day. And you are wrong. The largest employer in Glen Eira is Monash University followed by Glen Eira Council.
And as for your concept of because you are big you should be allowed to take public land (without any right to it or payment) to make even more money and become even bigger, all I can say is get stuffed.

I had a good first read, my first impressions is brief but to the point, and it seems Ok, but will needs someone more clever that I to read it through and find any loop-holes or sleeper in there.
Would it be correct to say the MRC has been ruled out as the managers of any future structures, I read it that way.
Will the Trustees resign? Our lot of Trustees are a bunch of Liberal lackeys, will they resign or will they remain to frustrate the Labor Government as long as possible. Southwick seemed keen to see the Trust banished, will that change now.
I noticed remuneration of any future management body in there, this will attract the rats to the cheese.
The big question is will we able to survive Magees gloating, I think I can hear him from here

Oh dear, it seems my keynote speech at the GHPG 10 years ago, with Dr Ian Woods and Prof Currie also giving speeches, certainly threw the Cat amongst the Pigeons. When I presented the fact that the VRC and the TAB wanted to leave Caulfield, and leave the racecourse land up for grabs, I didn’t think that the denizens of Glen Eira would be so quick of the mark to seize the opportunity of reclaiming the land. But then again there is at least between 50 to a 100 million worth of real estate just sitting there. Well Done.

What about night racing and getting rid of fences all over the place? I can’t see a thing about this in the report.

Peter, I’m hoping these first steps will lead us to these changes.
We just have to keep the sporting mad nuts like Magee and Pilling and Hyams from destroying this public land, with their demented quest to turn every scrap of open space in football fields and concrete courts with pavilions.

A big turning point in the management and administration of the site. If the MRC dominated trust is gone, a whole new era can commence with equal access for all stakeholders. The great pity is the $1 billion Caulfield Village development was approved and commenced using the former crown land.
