Lots of spouting on party political lines, trying to convince voters he is a true independent candidate.
The elephant in the room of course is political lines through community ties, political associations, and religious loyalties.
My experience prickles me to say, (MODERATORS: rest of sentence deleted)

If you want some evidence of political affiliation walk past a certain shop on Hawthorn Rd run by the wife of a local member and you will see 3 posters of Candidates. Have a guess who?
September 23, 2016 at 11:16 AM
For an insight into how ridiculous this election has become, readers should peruse the ‘candidate statements’ which will go out in their election pack. See: https://www.vec.vic.gov.au/GlenEiraElection/Candidates/
If the objective was to differentiate candidates from one another, then this is a dismal failure. Most claim to have read the Council Plan and the Code of Conduct. The majority of new candidates have not undertaken councillor training and of course only the Greens are ‘endorsing’ their candidates. Thus political membership of a party is not revealed unless the candidate chooses to do so. Interestingly, the following did not even bother to submit a form –
Silver
Esakoff
Cooper
Ho
Brewster
Lobo
Karlik did not provide contact details on his form.
‘Councillor training’ revealed some wonderful statements however. Many included the Glen Eira training/induction – which has previously been criticised by the Municipal Inspectorate, whilst others like Magee provided this gem – “Training by Glen Eira Council over the past 8 years”!!!!!!!!!!
The current political parties (Labor, Liberal, Greens) must take full responsibility for legislation that is woefully inadequate and nothing more than a sham!
September 23, 2016 at 12:03 PM
Lobo was there with his questionaire
September 23, 2016 at 12:55 PM
Correct. It was not there at the time of writing the above. Lobo however claims to be ‘endorsed’ by the Labor party. To the best of our knowledge the Labor party does not officially endorse candidates.
September 24, 2016 at 1:13 PM
It is a requirement when claiming endorsement from a political party that the candidate include a written consent from the registered officer of the party. Strange.

Ian Fayman’s attitude to the majority of electors in Camden is very disappointing. Is he intending to ever include the interest of the majority of residents when he is considering GECC matters? He seems to me to tarred with a similar attitude to several of our current councillors in this district who cannot think of the community as a whole.

We were remiss in not identifying the source of this newspaper article. It comes from the Jewish News and hence would have been written with a specific audience in mind we suggest.
September 23, 2016 at 5:10 PM
Fayman does not even live in Glen Eira, Should be a law against him standing.
September 23, 2016 at 5:27 PM
There is a law and it allows him to stand.
He owns property in Glen Eira, he pays rates in Glen Eira, he is therefore allowed to vote in Glen Eira or stand for Council if he wishes. Glen Eira Council makes decisions that impact him, therefore, he should be able to have a say.
He has been upfront about the fact that he is not a resident of Glen Eira so if you want to attack the man, do so on what he stands for not just your emotional reaction.

Bet you never said that about Penhalluriack.

When you have real estate agents advertising and possibly funding your election billboards then we’re in strife. Agents make a fortune out of development in Glen Eira. Being linked to some specific candidates does not bode well for these candidates who claim to care about “neighbourhood character”. To me, it’s like taking money from developers!
September 23, 2016 at 4:53 PM
How do do know real estate agents are funding the boards?
September 23, 2016 at 6:06 PM
My concern about Ian Fayman as a candidate is that he tends to talk a lot, spending much time telling you what he thinks and very little listening. That’s just my experience, and if he is elected, maybe he can adjust. A secondary concern is his stated desire to protect Camden ward, which if successful would increase the pressure on Rosstown and Tucker wards. That’s an argument that VCAT has used repeatedly when setting aside Council decisions.
September 23, 2016 at 7:14 PM
You comments on talking rather than listening are valid. The same applies to his running mate Joel.
September 23, 2016 at 6:28 PM
I thought I would make some comments in response.
Most of the real estate boards promote the real estate agents. They are given for free by the board suppliers to the real estate agents.
There is nothing owed to the real estate agents.
They are friends or associates who wish to help -for no reward.
I could have chosen to stand for another Council but I have the passion for Glen Eira..I want to spend my time helping the community I know.
I am passionate about more open space at Caulfield Racecourse.I have to be a Councillor in Glen Eira to be most effective.
The State Government has recently announced something about sacking the trustees-yet I am told it is not as easy as it sounds.
I am not a member of any political party-so have no biases not fears for advocating real action at State Government.
I am retired from my daily working life.
I volunteer.
I have the time to make Councillor my full time job.
I have the experience to handle difficult issues.
I believe in openness, consultation and feedback.
September 23, 2016 at 10:48 PM
Tell us about the deal you struck the football club playing at Princes Park.
so that your club could use the ground. How much cash was involved?
September 24, 2016 at 10:16 AM
You can bet the none of the supporters of Old Hailybury F.C will be voting for you.
September 24, 2016 at 12:55 PM
Ian, seeing you’re so honest how about you tell us how you plan to sneak AJAX back into prime Glen Eira turf.
And while you’re at it tell us how you’re going to help all the community (MODERATORS: rest of sentence deleted)
September 24, 2016 at 2:26 PM
I do not intend to sneak anything through.
I believe in open and honest communication and feedback.
Consult with the community, hear all views and fight for the majority rule.
I will represent the local community.
If supporters of Old Haileybury living in Camden Ward and do not want to vote for me-then is their democratic right.
I will be trying to represent the consensus view of Glen Eira.
September 24, 2016 at 5:09 PM
Getting on council and tossing Old Hailybury off the ground will be cheaper than your last attempt.
September 24, 2016 at 1:05 AM
Mr Fayman it is abolutely astounding to hear of your stated “passion for more open space at the Caulfield Racecourse”
I question you Have you just been struck down by this passion or have you secretly worked on thempaign which has lasted for about twenty years?
And most importantly whatare you plans to bring this about in the next year for all citizens of Victoia?
Free legal advice from yourself and Mr Joel would have done wonders!
September 24, 2016 at 2:20 PM
I only learnt recently about the centre of Caulfield Racecourse.
Went there once in 20 years,Have been there 6 times in past month.
A very hidden jewel.
Very hard to access.
Unknown to many.
No secret campaign..but when I heard about the Auditor General’s report of 2014,I thought something needs to be done.
It seems the current Government is requesting the Trustees to resign.
Took the State Government more than 2 years to action something.
I am not aware if any have resigned as yet?
I wonder what happens if trustees do not resign.
I am told there needs to be legislation to enforce a sacking.
I will need to have lots of time to advocate and lobby the State Government and the whole community of Victoria to see changes in the management of the racecourse.
I am not a current lawyer-I completed a law degree.
So no legal advice from me-no practicing certificate.
September 27, 2016 at 3:29 PM
Ian why didnt Ajax get involved in supporting camp magee protest. Glen eira fc were the only club to turn up in numbers.
September 25, 2016 at 1:00 PM
Maybe Mr Fayman’s desire to run for Gen Eira Council Is fuelled by his experiences in dealing with said Council and its officers?
At least he is prepared to put himself up to public scrutiny rather than hide behind the cloak of anonymity being used by some posters on this blog to denigrate him.
As for the nonsense about him not living in the area, we don’t require employees to live in the area why should that be a prerequisite for running for council?
Surely we are served best by having the most capable people rather than just those who live In the area?
September 27, 2016 at 1:02 PM
Dear Annon,
I am guessing I know you.
I have never hidden that I am only a ratepayer in Glen Eira( Camden Ward)
I asked Counvil officers if I am permitted to seek Councillor position.
I did reside in Camden for nearly 20 years.
Although I may live 500 meters outside Camden I frequent Gken Eira very often.
I have family and friends that live in Camden.i shop in Camden and have coffee in Camden and use the parks of Camden.
It is legal to be a candidate and Councillor if you are a rate payer.
At the very “end of the day” the voters must decide who will be best to look after their local needs.
The best candidate should be voted to Council.
