We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
Sounds good to me. About time that Glen Huntly got its act together and congratulations to Council for working with these traders and supporting their efforts.
Who’s paying? Are traders paying for use of town hall facilities? Are traders paying for postage by council? Or is everything coming out of mainly residents’ pockets, but they’re excluded from the meeting? What secret plans are being hatched without direct community involvement – apart from traders?
I’m not sure I understand what all this means so I’m just offering the following remarks on this basis.
The traders’ flyer cites “community stakeholders” in one paragraph and then in the very next paragraph there is reference to “as a commercial investor” in the area. I suspect that the flyer has only been distributed to shopkeepers and owners. The council letter is along the same lines – to “property owners”. Residents don’t seem to get a look in at all. I would have thought that if there is any joint move to “revitalise” an area that residents should also be included in any planning or discussions that are about to take place. They have as much right to input as anyone else. Reading the above this doesn’t seem to be happening, or to even be part of the larger picture.
It’s a shame to say but generally all the shopping centres in the south east……. Caulfield Derby Road, Glenhuntly Road, and Koornang Road look unkempt as though council does not care about them as much as other shopping centres. No wonder they are not attracting enough patronage as some people would become depressed if shopping there so go to Glenferrie Road instead.
