Our rumour was correct. An application is in for a fourteen (14) storey development almost next door to the 10 storey development in Glen Huntly Rd., Elsternwick.

Lowlights include:
- Waiver of carparking and loading
- 109 residential apartments
- Developer’s traffic engineer states: “there were at least 162 vacant spaces within the survey area from 7pm onwards”. Other conclusions of note in regards to parking are:

Fabulous stuff – ‘an empirical assessment of car parking demand’. So all you need is to pay for a traffic report to get the results you want and whacko – you’re home and hosed. Betya council don’t do their own traffic assessment but rely on the figures provided. Reckon residents should get out there and do this stuff so we get a real accurate figure for the entire week and for at least 15 hours straight. That would tell the real picture.

Dear Smart Aleck, to be fair, our understanding is that many councils have the same blurb as cited above in regards to car parking. The sticking point of course would be how this is interpreted and enforced.

Totally off topic.
Readers may be interested in the current representation review being conducted in Glen Eira.
The purpose of the review is to make recommendations regarding the structure of wards and number of councillors.
Details of preliminary recommendations can be found here.
http://www.vec.vic.gov.au/Reviews/gleneirarr.html
The last review was conducted in 2004/5 when the current ward boundaries and names were adopted.
Interestingly, the original recommendation in the last review was to retain the ward boundaries imposed by the Kennett Government when Glen Eira was created by merging Caulfield and part of Moorabbin municipalities. These wards ran north-south rather than the current east-west orientation.
It was residents’ submissions that persuaded the review panel to change the boundaries to the current configuration. This decision is of historical significance in that it was probably the only consultation process in recent Glen Eira history where residents’ input made any difference to the decisions taken.
At the last review there were no submissions from council (although this was common in other reviews) and none from any individual councillors.
This time we have a couple of submissions from residents and one from Crs Lipshutz, Hyams and Magee arguing for a return to the previous north-south wards.
Submissions in response to the recommendations can be made to the VEC by 20 April.

Thanks for this reminder Glen Huntly. It’s also interesting to note that in the ‘three amigos’ submission they just couldn’t help themselves and decided to take a swipe at ex councillor Staikos. Readers should carefully examine the argument and see all the holes in it! See: http://www.vec.vic.gov.au/reviews/rr/gleneira/presub/Hyams,%20J%20and%20Magee,%20J%20and%20Lipshutz,%20M.pdf

hi folks, i had examined the application and it is excellent in quality and arguments. it should be getting an award for excellence in presentation. it is not really surprising since the application and the project is driven by the creme de la creme of lawyers ‘maddocks’ (read carefully appendices)on behalf of linacre developments pty ltd. note also the excellent way of showing the accountability in the ‘document control table’, which identifies: the typist, the author, the verifier, and the approver. we can hope in vain to have anything like that from glen eira council.
the intriguing bit is how will cr tang vote on this issue! he is after all working for ‘maddocks’. doesn’t that constitute a conflict of interest?

Poor old Tangy. He’s gonna have so many conflicts of interest that he won’t know if he’s Arthur or Martha. Reckon the most honourable thing he can do is to resign so that he can be a really fantastic representative for Maddocks! Then we should ask for some repayment of his councillor stipend since he’s already opting out of so many things. Reckon about half should cover it.

Conflict of Interests do not exist in this Council, well not to them, but its pretty obvious to all the rest of us.
