If this scenario eventuates, then it will undoubtedly be one of the most stupid decisions ever made by a government body. It does however add fuel to the council fire for greater access to the racecourse and for the expansion of ovals in Caulfield Park. One sentence in the above Leader article should be carefully noted: “a council briefing report, seen by the Leader….”. Briefing sessions and the associated documents are ‘secret’. Was this deliberately leaked? If so, by whom? Or is this just another example of rules, regulations, and adherence to ‘governance’ going out the window whenever certain people decide it suits their agendas?
PS: And from the Port Phillip Leader

Ajax wants a 21 year lease at Albert Park and to play home games for there seniors at Princes Park.
I forget how many Glen Eira clubs missed out on a ground allocation last year. Was it 20 or 30?
What Ajax wants, Ajax will get.

If Ajax can do all this for $600,000 perhaps Glen Eira should contact them for advise on pavillion upgrades. All Glen Eira can do for $600K is expand the GESAC car parks – of course trees and parkland were also lost but Glen Eira doesn’t put a value on them.

The loss of engineering talent in Victoria is staggering. Just where does VicRoads claim dirt was stockpiled when level-crossings in Elsternwick [1960] and Box Hill [1983] were eliminated? In times gone by the Railways could even raise the height of a bridge by 2m without suspending services. The lack of substantiation accompanying VicRoads’ preferred option is pretty obvious.

Agree that using E E Gunn as a dumping ground is a disgrace. Not only for the sports clubs but the impact the conga line of trucks will have on local residents. The earth should be moved directly to the place where it will finally end up. However that would cost more so stuff the sporting clubs and stuff the local residents. Shameful.
