news just in. the car park in the middle of the racecourse will be getting smaller. Planning permission up to build infield scoreboard. Reckon at least 100 square meters gone and place will look even worse. Not bad getting planning permission to build on something that doesn’t belong to you!
Standard Operating Practice for a developer is to build what they want then apply for a retrospective permit amendment to render what they’ve done kosher. Worked a treat in Carnegie. 2m chain-mesh fences were acceptable to Council staff for the proposed public park in the racecourse centre. Hard to see on what grounds Council would or could refuse a large black incongruous box that blinks and flashes in or adjacent to whatever land is still considered a public park and/or public reserve. If this is truly on CRRT land then permission will have been sought, and presumably already obtained, from the Land Manager [still DSE?].
Construction of buildings and works to existing Medallion Club room
Construction of buildings and works for the purpose of a permanent infield electronic screen
Haha I just realised it’s April 1. As if a government Media Release would so bend the truth about what a developer was actually planning. 1200 units, 10K sqm office space, 15K sqm retail? Not according to the Development Plan. Employment opportunities? Gone. Carparking? It’s only “approximately” 2000 spaces. Error margin to be inserted later. Height limits? Purely discretionary. Close to transport? Some parts are over 800m from the train station. Perhaps they mean it’s close close to buses, like the rest of the municipality. Affordability isn’t part of the deal. Jobs on completion? Political promises are rarely audited, can’t be enforced, so say what you like. As for improved access to open space, it is the same pathetic mess it has always been. Inadequate signage, randomly closed gates during hours they’re supposed to be open, no listing of race days or major event days, literally scores of hurdles to be surmounted or climbed under. And according to our resident curmudgeon Cr Lipshutz, the racecourse reserve is completely unrelated to C60.
The MRC tricked the Trustees into a land swap that got them the Tab car park. The poor old Government and Council trustees were left with their pants pulled down.
Lipshutz, Esakoff, Hyams and Pilling then give them C60
Then comes the pay back. Lipshutz, Esakoff, Hyams are welcomed in to the Trustees club, a fitting reward for their commitment to the MRC.
Southwick gets the MRC land swap land for his sporting friends.
Pilling gets to be Mayor. Everyone is happy. What is all the fuss about?
As a disappointed Caulfield racegoer I have noticed the beautiful semaphore board at the western end of the track has been out of order for quite some time and now it has been turned into an enormous car advertisement. The race caller on Caulfield Cup Day naturally was very put out by this situation. He was unable to relay the prices to the listening public.
Why cannot this be repaired as it suites the heritage of the area and it is already an enormous construction which if in repair is far more satisfactory than the modern attempts.
