If the persistent and strong rumours prove correct, then Council has again been ticked off by Minister Wynne in relation to their draft amendments for the Bentleigh and Carnegie activity centres. We suspect that council has been ordered once again to pull its finger out and do some decent strategic work which would justify him gazetting the amendments.
As we’ve said in previous posts, the draft amendments:
- provided no strategic justification for the stated interim height levels
- FOI documents revealed no data that was worthy of that name was submitted by council
- all council has done is draw a few lines on some maps and this is meant to constitute ‘strategic planning’
All of this means, if true, more delays upon more delays in introducing some measures which help protect residents against over-development. We simply ask the question – when will this continued incompetence stop?

Winner needs to act now.

Major pissing in the wind. Fiddling with commercial and mixed use does nothing for those properties abutting the centres. Only a thorough revamp of the zones will do that.

A plea to the new ceo that she hire complete new senior planning staff. The ones there still have Newton and Akehurst running through their veins.

C110 lacked strategic justification too but that didn’t stop the then-Planning Minister. Council’s response to its Review is underwhelming—only 2 structure plans over 4 years??? If Council is in possession of a letter from the Minister, I hope our new councillors ensure it is made public so we can see exactly what the Minister is seeking and what he is complaining about. I’ll point out that the Minister is himself pretty slack, having received the MRDAC report many months ago. Report hasn’t been released, there has been no government response, and no changes made to Planning Schemes to reflect whatever was recommended.

Planning Team is changing thanks to the new CEO, Mayor and Councillors. See the new positions being advertised in:
http://careers.gleneira.vic.gov.au/caw/en/job/971252/coordinator-city-strategy-and-place-planning; and http://careers.gleneira.vic.gov.au/caw/en/job/971253/coordinator-city-transport-and-place-design .
Hopefully, the new team will take into account residents and communities views into account, not just developers.

Whilst I am not sure about any feedback from the Minister to Council, I have set up a petition urging the Minister to approve the Amendment.
Please feel free to sign here:

I didn’t complete your petition, and I would have liked too. The second questions stumped me, I have never seen a petition like this and I have signed many, I couldn’t proceed, if you want people to sign-up, please keep it simple.

My apologies, I just trialled it again and noticed that there is a screen which asks for donations for the site. I didn’t know that was part of the process – there is a “Skip” button in the middle towards the bottom of the screen which allows you to go past that screen and finish adding you signature. Please have another go ….
