Interesting Caulfield village (aka MRC) are showing off on sign that they won a high density award. Does that mean they have crammed more in than others?

And still the councillors do not understand the implications of unsustainable planning that will lead to unsustainable living conditions. We really are in the iceberg zone battened down in steerage on the ship of fools, with lunatics on deck steaming full steam ahead.

Do they even understand that unsustainable development is occurring?

Excessive immigration is driving all of this – a national discrace that cannot be undone. Liveability and amenity systematically destoryed by developers.

You’re right Terry, but the growth model keeps unemployment down to a explainable or defensible level. Unemployment is the greater enemy of any government in power. So until someone works out an alternative to the perpetual growth model we are stuck with system as you pointed out that systematically destroys its own amenity. Tim Flannery called this the “Future Eaters”

Agreed but doesn’t mean that Glen Eira should be doing a real lot more than any other areas in accomodating this. This is not a justification for the excessive and inappropriate over development of Glen Eira. Our Council has been asleep at the wheel and exposed us to significantly higher levels of development than our surrounding municipalities. Not good enough. They must address huge gaps in the Planning Scheme to address the development opportunities. No structure plans leaves our suburbs totally exposed to destruction. Very poor planning.

Couldn’t agree more. Council has bent over backwards in the past to ensure that no obstacles are placed in developers way. That’s why we haven’t had structure planning, tree management policies that mean something, development contributions and until 2014 an open space levy that brought in some more money. From the looks of things the concept structure plans are still heading in the same direction. No surprises since the libs and labs are all on the same page. Hard to decide who is worse – Guy or Wynne.

Now watch the open space levy monies collect sidelined into building projects that will concrete and take up more of our passive open space by replacing existing pavilions with much larger ones and bigger car parking areas.
The open space levy was meant to increase open space but it will be perverted by the sporting nutters that seem to want endless luxury in their little kingdoms. Sadly the open space levy will end up doing the opposite to what it was intended to do.
I think this levy should be used to purchase additional open space to help lift the ever decreasing ratio of the open space per head of population. We are the lowest by a long shot in Metro Melbourne, and it wouldn’t surprise me if Glen Eira was the worst in Australia.

If I recollect well, was it not ex Councillor Lobo some years ago who stood up and stated that if developments are approved at the rate Glen Eira was going on and on that our suburbs would look like Calcutta, India to the applause of the gallery. Most of the Councillors could not appreciate the value of wisdom.

…… then he would go on and vote for it, anyway
