Listed below are some of the latest planning applications yet to be decided. We draw readers’ attention to the following:
- The number of requested car parking waivers
- The lack of detail provided in council’s register (ie ‘multi-unit development’). The legislation requires that council publish what the proposal states. It is entirely inadequate that a phrase such as ‘multi unit development’ meets this requirement. If this is all that was submitted, then it should never have been accepted. If the application is far more detailed, then council needs to publish the details in full.

a reason why quite a few of us wanted to be near suburbs like Carnegie and Bentleigh is that we had the old traditional butchers and fruit shops. However now there is no parking so customers cannot get to them anymore. So the end result is somewhere like Aldi/Safeway say in carnegie or Chadstone will take over as they have carparks. To make it even harder for retailers in Carnegie because the development of the old Carnegie Dental group site in Neerim Road is using the whole building envelope they have put prortable buildings on the footpath. Not sure how you get permission to do this but end result is no footpath and even less parking. When you consider a lot of the car parks in Safeway are taken up by builders then there is nothing left for Carnegie shoppers.

This wouldn’t worry the Council staff as they probably live in another municipality.

The Carnegie car parks are Council car parks with time restricted parking. Ever seen a parking officer there?

None of this worries council as they willingly waived car parking requirements for the restaurant at 96 Koornang Road with seating for one hundred patrons. This was the thirty sixth sit-down food shopp in the area… but this is how they like it. Mr Akehurst thought it was a great idea. We may all like to park in the railway park with all the visitor parkers as advocated by the Mayor Pilling at council.

Climate change is supposed to have a tipping point which once reached can’t be gone back on. I’m starting to think that development in Glen Eira has already reached this tipping point. There’s got to be saturation where none of the infrastructure can cope any more and the roads become so clogged that we’re at a standstill. I don’t remember any figure ever being published about what is the optimum number of people that can live in Glen Eira. Is another 20000 okay or another 50000 and how much will this cost in terms of continually having to upgrade drains and roads and providing open space. It’s insane planning because none of these other things are taken into consideration.

There is no sustainable planning in GE, the Libs and Labor are all pro the growth model, the two Greens have lost their way and become supporters of a non-sustainable future, and just vote for everything

Some time ago this blog posted a document showing that the new zones provided for 85 years worth of residential development in the residential zones and 107 years worth if the Commercial zones (which also include residential dwellings) was added. What’s occurring now is the tip of the iceberg.
If anyone out there believes that any Councillor or Administrator or Planning Officer has the necessary wherewithall to deal with what was unanimously unleashed then they are kidding themselves. Since the original concept of increasing housing density around hubs was implemented in 2002 (concept first floated in the 1990s) this Council has consistently ignored all the issues related to increased population density in a limited space. It is continuing to do so..

They don’t have the wherewithall as you say. They don’t even have the interest to do anything since the aim is to allow as much development as possible and have ratepayers pick up the bill for any necessary added drainage instead of making the developers pay for it.
