We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
Is this a joke???
It was this party’s collusion with the GECC that got us into this mess in the first place!!!
Wasn’t it Matthew Guy, the now Leader of the Opposition, who cut a swathe of new zones across Glen Eira, only to have his buddies at Council eagerly support him?
Their hypocrisy makes me SICK!!!
I think everybody should take David’s work in the community seriously. Just have a look at his website davidsouthwick.com.au to realise he is a one man publicity juggernaut. After the meeting you can expect pictures, tv streaming and reports that shows he is interested in Caulfield people views. The pictures are likely be with other of his supporters and Liberal Councillors like Lipshutz, Esakoff, Hyams, and Okotel, if they attend. Nevertheless if anyone wants to raise Planning and Local Government issues then you should go in mass and express your views, Make sure that you also record the meeting in pictures and audio and perhaps contact Leader and other newspapers with your views of what has transpired. Transparency of politicians doings is paramoumt. BE THERE OR BE SQUARE!
Yep, David deserves every accolade he gives himself – although not even preselected for the seat of Caulfield he orchestrated the landscaping of the centre of the racecourse (which the Auditor General has described as not meeting the needs of the community and not easy to access). As for the C60 development this event is being held at the same location where he infamously promised to “reverse the land swap” – you might want to ask him how that is going.
And to bring along David Davis – what a coup!!!. This bloke headed the 2011 Legislative Council Select Committee on Crown Land Management that clearly said things were rotten to the core in the management of the racecourse – the proceeded to do precisely nothing.
What either of these two know about the zones will take all of two minutes to get through – then it will be a “David pats the other David’s back” show.
I’m really interested to see how the two David’s are going to present the Liberals imposition of the new zones by a Liberal dominated Council without any community consultation.
While they are at it, I hope they explain
. why they are presenting this now after they lost an election, principally on their failure to do anything about a massive increase in high rise dwelling density approvals that outstripped any town planning considerations (particularly public transport, education and health infrastructure) that were required to support that increase.
. why since their election loss they have considered it appropriate to appoint one of the chief architects of that loss as their leader
. what exactly they are promising to do – listen? gather evidence?. All presented prior to and during the last election.
I’m in full agreement with the comments already made. There is no integrity in politics these days and that includes the upstarts that sit on council and see this as a stepping stone to the state or federal arena. Government in Australia, and I’m including all political parties here, is a disgrace.
It is pretty obvious that this blog is populated by Left leaning ALP supporters,
Staikos was on the race track trust and failed to speak out for residents. He is now the person representing the residents of Bentleigh and cops no flak for his failure to stop inappropriate development. Been silent on Virginia Park development. The Council has knocked it back now watch as they get it up through the Andrews Government. Staikos will be told to shut up.
Left leaning ALP supporters indeed – have you ever listened, or thought about, what the growing number of “P*ssed Off” are saying, probably not as it’s far easier to automatically claim they must be Labor supporters. Likewise have you ever objectively looked at the Southwick or Davis’s actual vs. claimed achievements?
Obviously, Labor learnt a planning lesson from their toss out and 4 years of Guy and Ballieu/Napthine. Now they are back in they are at least showing they learnt something whereas the Libs are doing what? Will Labor live up to it’s election promises, may be maybe not (the residents objection bill is not looking promising) but unless the Libs massively manage to lift their game come the next election they will probably remain in the wilderness.
Your optimism on “getting it up through the Andrews Government” is misplaced. Gillon went to council presumably because he thought this was a safer bet than trying to twist Wynne’s arm on the amendment. His tough luck was that Guy got the sack at the most inopportune time and the Labs won. Otherwise the amendment would have gone through.
Staikos was a poor councillor. He may well be a poor MP. He has the advantage of being in a very very important electorate and this gives him some “persuasive powers” with the big boys. Thus far I’ve been told that he is accessible to the public and has assisted in the Save East Bentleigh campaigns. That makes him far more “community minded” than the likes of Lipshutz for example – unless of course you happen to be a mate who volunteers to hand out how to vote cards and then puts in a planning application soon after.
Remember when Southwicks was exposed for having phony Art Degree from Monash hanging in his office and another from RMIT say he was an Associate something or other. Now he being exposed about caring about over development, this failure of a man is a unbelievable phony at every level one could consider.
