We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
Southwick is desperate little man, trying to re-write the his very recent past, does he think we are that stupid that we have forgotten his past pro-development cheer squad leader for Mathew Guy.
All this from a man who printed his own BA certificate, when he was exposed for this fraud, he actually said “he thought he had a BA from Monash Uni.”
Southwich have the decency to resign from parliament for (MODERATORS: rest of sentence deleted)
Today in our street we have no power no gas and no water. All due to development. Notice was given for power but incompetent contractors at 2 Belgian development site have severed water and gas. Great!! 23 seniors living next door in council flats with no services. Also because they have dug up right across the road we can’t get cars out
I went to the meeting with Southwick (MLA Caulfield) and David Davis (Shadow Minister for Planning) and is was a farce. Even though they could have done some preparation their lack of planning knowledge showed they didn’t bother.
Yep, they did same Labor was planning to reduce the size of the NRZ but not one shred of evidence was presented to support this. Likewise nothing was presented by the Libs on what they would do.
Read all about a man that has no education to speak of, so he printed one making himself a adjunct professor of our RMIT, and added a diploma in Business Studies from Monash whilst he was at it. He is also a State elected parliamentarian. Could anyone ever trust this man that is willing to print a false past to make himself look educated.
David Davis obviously didn’t check his facts and made the fatal mistake of relying upon what he was told by GECC. The fraction of Glen Eira that is zoned NRZ is less than 70%—when I last did the calculations based on State Government data it was 69.58%. I don’t share his concern over reviews either. The current planning scheme is an appalling mess as is the Victorian Planning “System” generally. There is no need to wind anything back if Glen Eira has 85 years’ supply, and the supply may have increased with the recent VCAT decisions that development in C1Z don’t have to comply with anything, not even the Guidelines for Higher Density Residential Development. One thing David DIDN’T say in the meeting is what he would do to improve the planning system if he was Planning Minister.
Must admit to being disappointed with the lack of planning knowledge displayed by the two Davids, both in general and as applicable to Glen Eira.
I was also appalled at Jamie Hyams short introductory presentation. As usual, it was full of his special brand of incomplete truths presented as rock solid fact. An example, in NRZ developments are limited to 2 dwellings. Not correct. It is not applicable to lots that are “considered” to be larger than other individual properties in the surrounding area and, therefore, are “considered” to be capable of accommodating more than 2 dwellings. With no minimum lot size defined for Glen Eira’s NRZ areas you don’t have to be a member of Mensa to see that the claimed limitation of 2 dwellings per lot is open to interpretation and is designed to appease rather than protect the NRZers. .
Am not sure if Jamie stayed long enough (stated previous appointment) to note the audience’s clearly expressed dissatisfaction with how Glen Eira does or rather doesn’t undertake planning. But since he was the Mayor who imposed the zones without community consultation, and has consistently maintained the no consultation stance, it probably makes no difference.
Southwick and Davis had plenty to say about the latest Andrews bill on objector rights last week. The impression they created was that the legislation wouldn’t be supported by their party. Well I happened to catch some of the parliamentary debate in the Senate and the libs will vote for it. To misquote some wise old polly – we’re ruled by mental pygmies.
