PS: Just to clarify the above, here are the definitions of the various departments. All are taken directly from the Annual Report – ie council’s own version!

Considering how absolutely atrocious Glen Eira Council is in anything to do with town planning and is even worse at engaging the community it’s absolutely understandable that Community Relations has so many employees and that they are probably working overtime.

It appears to be saying that Glen Eira’s equivalent of 1984’s Ministry of Truth is twice as important as Planning and Transport. It is certainly responsible for any necessary falsification of historical events, and creates/manufactures “truth” in the Newspeak sense of the word.

Paul Burke is so important that he needs all this staff. Even more important than planning and transport that affects every single person living here. Good to know that empire building is still alive and well.

Great excuse for lowering services even more by Glen Eira. Do like this bit – “An average rate increase of almost 6 per cent year after year for the last decade is unsustainable and it’s unfair.” Reckon she needs to have a good talking to, to our economic geniuses.

Planning and transport are criticised every single year by residents. We’re told that applications have increased dramatically and that people wanting something done about rat runs in their local streets has also gone through the roof. Looking at the numbers of staff it is no wonder they cannot cope with the demand. This says a lot about the mentality of this council where more money, staff, and focus is placed on presenting a good image, instead of fixing the issues that worry residents the most.

When will our councillors wake up to the fact that Newton is a dud of a CEO, he could cut back Burke’s tin-pot empire, and save us cash-cows having to stump up ever increasing amounts of cash onto the altar of Burke’s petty hate machine
