We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
I support the editorial.
My name is Ian Fayman.
I will nominate for Councillor in the Glen Eira Council elections for the Camden ward.
I am 62 years old and have a legal and business background. I enjoy watching and participating in sport, having played and coached junior Aussie Rules footy and cricket at both Princes Park and Caulfield Park in the Camden Ward. I know and love the Glen Eira Municipality and am intimately familiar with the surrounding streets, businesses and community spaces.
I am standing as an independent Councillor with no political persuasions, affiliations, biases nor political party memberships.
I will work tirelessly in the best interests of the local community-not political party policies. I have the time and experience to negotiate and consult with residents and other Councillors to get the best results for our community.
I want to be THE VOICE for our community.
thank you for your comment on the editorial. As an upcoming candidate, perhaps our readers would like to know what your platform will be – especially your views on planning in Glen Eira and how to ensure an open and transparent council. If you have already produced some flyers, we would be happy to publish those.
No I am not a ‘sporting mad’- just a candidate listening to local residents and council reports that state there is insufficient open recreational space to allow many many youth unable to do sport – that they wish to participate in.
Can have racing at caulfield racecourse- but where is the fair and equitable areas for open public space as originally decreed?
This post was about the Leader editorial regarding candidates should not use council positions to further their own political aspirations and ambitions that may interfere with the best interests of the local residents.
I am not a member of any political party .
I want to be the voice for the local community- not push political agendas.
Any candidate locking himself into spending huge sums of money on a sporting minority will not get my vote. You are correct Ian we do have a open space problem something this council and past councils have failed to address. So carving what little passive open space we have into children’s playground is not sustainable.
And if its not to rude to ask who will get your preferences? just to make sure your not there to funnel votes to Cr. Lipshutz or the candidate coming out of David Southwick office
I will finalise all preferences when I see who has nominated.
My preferences will be set out clearly in the ballot papers – so you will know before you vote.
I am not ” locking myself into spending huge sums of money”.
There are options including negotiations with the racing club tenant, and State and Federal Governments.
The local community will be asked to give their opinions on best recreational use of the 54 hectares to be shared with the tenant.
All stakeholders’ interests must be considered .
I am a ratepayer in Glen Eira.
I did live there for nearly 20 years.
Personal circumstances saw my immediate family and I move just outside Camden.
I have family living In Glen Eira.
I visit shops , businesses friends and cafes in the municipality and yes I may come back and live in Glen Eira if my personal circumstances change.
what do we have we here, if this comment about living in Malvern is true, Lipshutz brother is disguise, and just another con job to funnel votes to the Liberals
Thinking back I would say that at least half of Glen Eira councillors and those from other councils do see local government as a stepping stone to a state or federal political career. This council has been more politically driven than others though. We’ve had Lipshutz vying for Liberal preselection only to be beaten by Southwick. Pilling’s tried twice, Okotel’s tried, Delahunty’s tried and Staikos has been the only successful one that I remember. Fair enough that they try but not when they bring in their political agendas and squabbles into the chamber. Every chance the Liberals get to stick the boots into Labor they can’t resist and the reverse is also true. There are no current “independents” on this council for all their denials. When it comes to supporting the political party or residents, the political party always wins out from these people.
If this is the same Ian Fayman it looks like he is just another con job trying to get on council to reap personal profit. The developer are gathering like buzzards over a dying beast called Glen Eira
Not a lawyer
Trained in law
Have a law degree
Have commerce degree
Ran a textile business for 30 years until could no longer compete with imports.
Nothing wrong with having experience in dealing with difficult situations and trying to manage different views and opinions.
State Government has put forward a plan for the future – Melbourne 2030.
Growth will occur
It needs to be planned carefully so that suburban character is maintained but integrated into public transport routes.
I promise the earth before I’m elected. Once elected I’ve got amnesia and don’t understand what people mean when they talk about “inappropriate development”. I blame everyone else for not doing their jobs or blame my former political party but it’s never my job to fix anything. I’m just there for the glory or for the mayoral payoff.
Personally I don’t have much time for one issue candidates for a variety of reasons that I won’t go into here. Fayman is a one issue candidate determined to relocate Ajax seniors to either Princes Park or the Racecourse. That’s okay with me. Declaring this outright would have been far more convincing and truthful.
Macca,
You are obviously entitled to your opinion.
But I need to dispute your post as it is wrong.
I have released a detailed brochure to all residents in Camden.
The Ajax fc to Princes Park or Racecourse is not on my platform nor policy.
It was when I was President of the Ajax fc and residents asked me to fight for that cause on their behalf.Council granted one game.
I want to be the local community representative and voice at council
If residents raise an issue eg security, extra lighting,CCTV cameras, 19 storey redevelopment in Kooyong rd ,women only times at public pools or off- street parking requirements with new developments or parking restrictions in side streets are just some of the issues being raised directly with me.
My role if I am successful to be a Councillor,is to take the issue to council- hear the alternatives, fight for what seems fair and reasonable and cost effective and delivers a benefit for the whole community – and then report back.
Open consultative process
That is my ” one” issue.
On the caulfield racecourse – most residents I have seen believe the centre of the racecourse is not being fairly utilised- as stated by the auditor general in 2014.
Nothing to do with Ajax fc
Open recreational public space
What do local residents want there??
Macca,
One further follow up comment regarding the Caulfield racecourse.
The Council back in 2013 drew up a concept plan for the internal area.
I was not on Council at the time.
I had nothing to do with that concept plan.
My frustration is that nothing has been done about it…and that goes back to the original post regarding the Leader editorial-Councillors should not be members of political parties as their biases and politics may get in the way of want is best for the local community.
I received brochures from Joel Silver and Ian Fayman in my letterbox today.
Probably delivered together.
Both claim not to be members of a political party. Both are friends of David Southwick. Silver has Southwick’s photo in his brochure. Silver and Fayman are friends.
Fayman says his big issue is Caulfield Racecourse. Fayman is president of Ajax football club. So we can guess his interest there.
Fayman is a property investor. He says he is the voice of the community but his brochure says nothing about over-development.
Fayman’s brochure is authorised by Ian Fayman of 7 Orrong Crescent. But Fayman lives in Malvern. Maybe one of his investment properties?
well Ian Fayman has my vote. Im not sure what the objection could be to Ajax getting access to the racecourse when the Jewish population of Camden is over 50%. I can only see the MRC stooge raising this anti Ajax propaganda to stop the public getting access to this public land
50% of my street is over 2 metres tall and we don’t want any short people in our street.
Anom 8, grow up, numbers do make for sound reasoning or the right of the majority to rule, and maybe get your facts correct, if the ABS data shows that your 50% is now 35% does this mean you get nothing.
Use your brains and not revert to mob rule, you live in a community not a fantasy.
No complaint here about Ajax getting access to the racecourse, and I think they should.
Just do it via the front door and be upfront about it, do not use Hyams and Lipshutz’s low standards of trying to do everything clandestinely via the backdoor.
Haven’t we had enough of private agenda councillors by now. Surely this is the time to put in place people who have an actual interest in our community as a whole. I received a message back from one candidate telling me he had no opinion on development in my ward. I interpret that to I couldn’t care less what happens in your ward. I believe all councillors vote on matters in all wards.
The Libs are calling all their favours from their developer mate to pay for all this expensive advertising. This is how it works, give the developers what they want and reap the small change around election time Smells like corruption to me.

Cr Lipshutz will be elected without anyone “funnelling preferences”. He didn’t need preferences last time. He is a winner.
