We are committed to facilitating genuine debate within Glen Eira. Your views on planning, environment, open space, CEO and councillor performance matter.
Suspected this was happening with last set of in camera items. The question is how long is this new contract? Five years, 3 years? Sadly we have no indication as to salary or what the key performance indicators are and how well she has been assessed and evaluated under these criteria. I can only hope that this is not the start of another Newton like reign.
The Local Government Act, 1987 now includes this paragraph at Section 94
“If a Council passes a resolution to reappoint a person as its Chief Executive Officer without advertising the position, the Council must make details of the person’s proposed total remuneration as Chief Executive Officer under the new contract available for public inspection within 14 days after the passing of the resolution.”
From Ms McKenzie’s pen. 2/8/19:
“I was delighted to receive the call from the Mayor during my leave, letting me know of Council’s intention to renew my contract for a further term. I have always said that Glen Eira is my professional happy place, so I’m really pleased to have the confidence of the Council to continue as your CEO past the conclusion of my current contract in February next year. I am very proud of what we have been able to collectively achieve over the last 3 ½ years – from customer satisfaction, to business transformation, staff engagement, and industry recognition – all while continuing to provide very high standard business as usual services to our community. It’s been very much a team effort, so I would like to personally acknowledge you all and thank you for the role that you have played in our success. It’s a privilege to be able to continue to see that work through and to embed it further in our organisational DNA.”
Sounds like a 4 year term again. As for your other questions… Surely you’re joking.
We’ve received this comment in relation to a previous post, but believe it also belongs here. So we are repeating it.
Ms McKenzie’s internal update 28/6/19
This week @ Executive
This week at our regular Tuesday Executive team meeting, we discussed:
* “Potential improvements to our ways of communicating with our Councillors, to ensure they are only receiving information that is relevant and timely. We need to find a balance of ensuring they are fully informed for resident queries and Council decision-making, while not overloading them.”
Gate keeping par excellence! Feed them in dribs and drabs to better deflect resident concerns. This says it all in our opinion!

This is already done and dusted. Ms McKenzie has thanked councillors for re-electing her more than a week ago in her weekly internal memos.

“industry recognition” that a “Freudian Slip” if I’ve ever seen one, I’m sure this recognition is mutual.

Interesting as she applied for the job of Stonnington CEO but didn’t get it.
