Glen Eira Councul, Nick Staikos andSteve Dimopoulos need to address the rampant over development in Glen Eira immediately. It is a disaster. It is ugly. It is ruining the ambience of the area. I don’t know how they can stand by and continue to let greedy developers drive residents out of their homes. It is a disgrace. Please show us you care and Act Now!

Do you really think either of those blokes could have any impact on the planning laws ? You are living in middle suburbs that will be developed like crazy. No point in comparing Glen Eira to Bayside. try comparing with Moreland.

We have a Labor government that is going to rely on these seats to retain power. Staikos’ seat is the most marginal in the state. That does give him some leverage. I don’t expect that Labor will have too much sympathy for the Liberal dominated seats like Glen Eira and if the outcry is loud enough, and continues long enough, I expect changes to be made.

I didn’t know Glen Eira was a State seat. I thought it was a municipal district. In fact Glen Eira is not Liberal dominated. 3 ALP and 3 Liberal. 1 Greens and 2 non party members. I fail to see where it is Liberal dominated. The mayor and his deputy are both ALP members. Of the 4 State seats that make up Glen Eira three of are held by the ALP.
Making things up lowers the tone of the blog and diminishes the credibility of your posts.

Okotel Hyams Esakof Lipshutz Pilling are libs. That’s a liberal dominated council.

You need to be careful what you say about people. You got 3 out of 5 right. Like D. Evans you make things up.

Okotel’s election campaign was funded in part by a lib heavy weight, Frank Greenstein. Pilling underwent an epiphany with his mayoralty and left the greens.

Still doesn’t warrant the label of a Liberal council. The ALP probably financed Delahunty’s campaign and you could be sure that the Greens Party paid for all of Souness and Pillings election expenses. The bloke that wrote that is well off the pace.

Hang on there Mr/Mrs Anonymous, you are not100% correct in respect to the above 3 may, there is Esakoff who may not be official member of liberal party (we hear that her is a member) the voting patterns with rest of the 3 is obvious. They pull All

Heatherichs quote says it all “It’s all because of the zones”. End of story. Council has successfully ruined suburb after suburb and street after street and not only in Carnegie but even in leafy Caulfield North.

If they do not put a stop to the greedy developers their second term will not be kind to them. Is grade separation more important than the damage and inconvenience to residents?

By the time any state government review is completed it will be too late to save streets like Elliott Avenue. That is what council is banking on. If it were otherwise, then they would have completed all their ancient promises and undertaken a full review of their planning scheme. They haven’t because it will show how incompetent they have been and what an unmitigated disaster the zones really are. The priority in Glen Eira council is to never, never own up to balls ups – particularly if they are as monumental as the zones.

Council has consistently ignored community opinion about zoning, amenity, and heritage. It has pursued what it wanted regardless of feedback. Remember that Council specifically excluded properties located in its Housing Diversity [sic] areas from strategic studies underpinning Heritage Overlays. Despite repeated criticism from VCAT, it has failed to articulate preferred character for Housing Diversity areas in the Planning Scheme. It has run away from its own statements that it made at the time it imposed the Housing Diversity policy upon the community. It has failed to review the Planning Scheme in a timely manner, and ignored community input from the last review 6 years ago. It has no idea where it is going, yet spends inordinate amounts of time and energy dodging accountability.

A new bunch of councillors is needed. And council officers who actually care about the residents who are paying them.

I agree with you 100%. Anyone with any sense should never vote for a single one of these people – unless they are developers that is. Glen Eira is going backwards fast and it is the fault of Newton and councillors.

Has anyone ever reported the stench near the corner of Queens Avenue and Neerim Road?
