Finally some potential action on flooding and the Elster Creek catchment area! But what is so disappointing is that residents have to find out about this initiative not from their own council, but from the agenda items of Port Phillip! Given that the first meeting occurred in March, that surely provided enough time for some Glen Eira Council comment, or even a media release. Instead there has been silence.
This will also have major significance for Glen Eira which is ‘home’ to about 70% of the Elster Creek catchment – and that includes the upcoming Virginia Estate development. How much this will all cost the individual councils remains to be seen. But wouldn’t it make a great change for once if residents were informed as to what was happening and the likely costs – instead of being always kept in the dark like mushrooms!

Yes! this is a step forwards, Newton and Burke furiously resisted any responsibilities for actions on Elster Creek flooding in Glen Eira and in downstream Elwood, and refused even to talk with Melb Water.
No2. is a doozy .. “Embed a common language in community engagement
processes that is constructive and meaningful for community members”
It amazing they need to spell this out for the four CEO’s, I would have thought this would have been written into their job descriptions.

I just read the fine print it will be the Mayors of the four councils that sign this Memorandum of Understanding, leaving the CEO and the staff will be free to carry on with all the deceit and treachery needed to sink this Melbourne Water initiative.
I’m hoping the Port Phillip interests will hold the Machiavellian upper catchment mob to account.

About time and maybe these other councils can put pressure on Glen Eira to come to the party.

Lets see if it’s tabled at the next Council meeting.

Wait to see the stupid argument that we get floods only “once in a 100 years” The most irresponsible developments initiated by the Council and supported by the state government will create regular floods that will need the use of small boats to get on to the main road.

Have a look at the Elster Creek underground drains map
http://www.elster-creek.org.au/900/elster_creek_catchment_map.pdf .
It clearly shows that majority of those drains are in Glen Eira.
You may be interested in your own streets flooding if the Elster Creek is blocked near you.

Unfortunately that diagram doesn’t show the boundaries between the various branches of the drainage network. Those of us who have been flooded take little pleasure in seeing all the development occurring in Carnegie without upgrade to drainage capacity and with repeated waivers of permeable area requirement. Council refuses to apply its own planning scheme.
