This statement isn’t Council’s position. If it was, there would be a resolution to that effect to be found in Council’s Minutes. The original decision was that the land was surplus to Council’s requirements and they would sell to somebody “willing to accept key commercial terms”. There were no key commercial terms specified.
Just a week ago, Council considered in secret an item concerning residential aged care, allegedly because it was discussing “contractual matters”. There is no resolution in the Minutes from whatever discussion took place, no agreement on the conditions under which Council would be prepared to sell.
The decision to sell the land that is currently used for aged care is controversial, and it is poor form that Council is using its extraordinary powers under the Local Government Act to exclude the public from key steps in the process, all without public Minutes to confirm what they’re claiming.
Well said. From day one the process has been atrocious and secret. No community consultation and no guarantee that these places with new owners will last more than five years. Reckon we won’t even know how much falls into the council kitty from the sale. More money for them to waste.
