Despite the ‘tactfulness’ of the missive presented below, it is very clear that Staikos (and Wynne) are far from happy with our wonderful council. The reasons are obvious:
- Wynne grants interim height guidelines of 5 and 4 storeys for Bentleigh and 7 and 6 storeys for Carnegie and council literally thumbs its nose at this with its proposed 8 and 12 storeys respectfully.
- Community outcry is growing and state elections are not that far off
- Repeated questions to council remain unanswered, and concept plans lack all strategic justification – especially the ‘upgrading’ of East Bentleigh.

Pretty piss weak letter but the message is there – pull your finger out and start doing what you’re paid to do and don’t destroy Bentleigh and other areas.

No excuses for 8 – 12 storey developments, can’t blame state government.

Nick is Labor through and through, he is just another politician saying one thing here and another thing there. Knowing he’s not accountable for either. It’s a win, win; set-up for him.

Good news, they should be paid for by developer contributions though!

A political hot potato with no-one have a concern for us. Far dinkum, get on with the real job.

Local member sounds like he’s getting a bit nervous, so he should after sky tower at Ormond. Glen Eira a soft target due to years of planning neglect from a select few but state government better beware. Take advantage of it at your peril.

This Council is impossible to deal with. They know exactly what feedback has been given but play games to get another outcome. They need to take a good look at themselves. Unless the newish Councillors act now this poor reputation will continue.

If there are any Liberal Party apparatchik in our planning department they will trying their hardest to nail the Labor member Saikos with the highest building heights they can get away with. At the same time Guys been selling his arce around town to the underworld developers, no doubt secretly telling them it’s full steam ahead if they manage to get back into power. If you want a solution stop voting for the Libs and Labs as they have completely sold out to the big end of town many decades ago.

Big stakes for both labor and libs, they know development is a big issue and will be jockeying in the marginal seats. The future of the government might just be decided in Glen Eira.

Staikos could have and should have expressed himself far more strongly. This is a weak slap on the wrist and nothing more. The only positive that I can see for residents is that Wynne is included in the “conversation”. He would not have liked council upping the ante from 5 to 8 heights when the reasons provided were to stop inappropriate development. Council is going to have a hard time winning the debate about 8 storeys being “appropriate”.

Big opportunity gone begging. Council can’t use the state government line now though for 8 to 12 storeys.

I thought they have already won

This relates to Council’s carpark in Bentleigh having 8 level buildings approved whereas the State Government wanted 4 levels. Nick Staikos, the Member for Bentleigh, started his political career as a Glen Eira Councillor.
I look forward to seeing your interim plans,
