The Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has released its latest figures for building approvals in local councils. The numbers are for a six month period – July 2017 to December 2017. As can be seen from the table below, only Monash has had a greater number of permits granted. However, once we take into account Monash’s size (81 square km) and its proportion of houses to apartments, then Glen Eira still leads the pack in terms of increasing density, lack of open space, minimal single house replacements, and most mind boggling is how our ‘neighbours’ can have less than half of the developments that are occurring in this municipality.
Given these figures it is unbelievable that our council is paving the way for more and more development via its current planning strategies rather than attempting to seriously curb this growth.
PS – WE’VE UPLOADED THE ABS DATA HERE

The numbers tell a story of complete incompetence by this council. If my maths is right then we’re only getting about 8% of houses built compared to double that in Monash. At this rate we’re also looking at 3000 permits by the end of the financial year. And these morons are still aiming for more and more buildings up to 12 storeys.

Possibly not head in the sand. More likely a continuation of the long standing agenda that development for development’s sake is required. No thought given to what this really means for people and how to manage parking, open space, drainage and so on.

Ridiculous stats. Wake up councillors and do something for god’s sake.

A disgrace

This is like a surreal experience living in a parallel universe. Is this really happening? Why do we have elected representatives?

Council hung out the welcome sign to developers in 2013. Nothings changed just ten times worse

And everyone thought labor would make things better only to see the mess around.

Wait a moment folks, Minister Jill Hennessy has announced $40 Million worth of developments as accommodation for large number of homeless folks.

How does Bayside get away with 396 and Boorondara a few more? Glen Eira needs to call a halt to this craziness. If we’re in the same bracket as these councils then they need to pull their weight to. Councillors should be jumping up and screaming at the top of their lungs to Wynne and labor.

Corruption on a vast scale may explain all these anomalies, a delegation of residents taking these stats to Victoria’s IBAC may get to the bottom of this mess. Where’s there’s smoke there is usually fire.

Couldn’t do any harm. People certainly have suspicions which according to their headline page seems to be sufficient justification to making a complaint.

Act on it.”
Go for it I say.
