Glen Eira planning scheme
Mr DIMOPOULOS (Oakleigh)
— On Monday the Minister for Planning visited Carnegie to make a pretty big announcement for both Carnegie and neighbouring Bentleigh. My community in Carnegie specifically are acutely aware of the devastation caused by the former government and the then planning minister, now the Leader of the Opposition — I think they called him Mr Skyscraper — changing the rules to allow developers to take over Carnegie, and people have paid the price since then.
I am really pleased that on Monday the Minister for Planning came to Carnegie and announced everything that the Glen Eira City Council had asked for in relation to height controls — that is, maximum mandatory height controls in Carnegie, which will help protect the remaining character of that wonderful suburb. I am really pleased that the minister visited. I think it was his third visit to Carnegie, and I appreciate his support. He understands the need to balance development with community expectations, and that is exactly what he delivered on Monday.

Right! Going from seven stories discretionary to twelve storeys mandatory is a great step forward. That for sure fits into community expectations.

WTF? How would Steve Dimopoulos know what GECC asked for? GECC hasn’t told the public. Dreadful as the pre-2016 Council was, it published what it was seeking via Amendments C147 and C148 so the public and developers alike knew what Council had adopted, which of course then became a seriously-entertained proposal. Post-2016 and Council is once again avoiding public scrutiny.

All Labors games to help protect their very junior MP’s in Bentleigh and Oakleigh from losing their seat in the coming November elections.
Meanwhile our Liberal Councils have been trying for years to get as much ugly development into Glen Eira as possible as to reflect badly on their Labor enemies, this also ingratiate themselves with their developer mates and brings developers donation into their election slush-funds. Caught in between these puerile infighting the resident lose.

Neither Labour nor Liberal have delivered to Glen Eira what the voting public want and expect. Everyone is against anything that is more than 4 storey so both side of politics need to man up otherwise you will get voted out for sure for sure. This is exactly why parties like one nation get elected as the 2 majors are so far out of touch with the voting public….Do it at your own peril.
Self gratification is the lowest form of complement but that’s the only one that the majors get.

It’s not what the voting public expect that is the issue. It is what they promise to act on when elected
Our councillors to a person when running for office promise to act on over development, traffic, parking etc, etc, and once in office, do the opposite and vote almost exclusively in favour of the developers interests.
The question is why?
If they do not explain why they behave like this, we can only make up our own minds on why, and lazy, (MODERATORS: word deleted) behaviors would be on the top of my list.
